Dr Organic is a beauty brand which uses natural and organic substances in its creations that have been sourced from all over the world. The products are always free from parabens and artificial fragrances and colours. They are always suitable for use by vegetarians and never test their products on animals.
One of my favourite creations by the brand is the Organic Manuka Honey Lip Balm. This is a moisturising lip product which is made out of natural ingredients. It claims to hydrate and repair your lips as well as protecting them from external factors such as pollutants and harsh weathers.
And as it provides your lips with SPF 15 protection, then harmful UVA rays won't be able to damage the delicate skin. The rich formula is designed to nourish and moisturise even the driest of lips.
How does it work?
The main ingredient of this product is nourishing Manuka Honey, hence its name, and the substance is incredibly moisturising. It encourages the development of healthy skin cells and repairs dry and chapped skin by speeding up the healing process. It is an antioxidant so it helps to keep the skin looking younger for longer and it helps the formation of collagen which means that the lips will appear fully and plumper.
The balm also contains Propolis which is a honey based substance that bees actually use to protect their hives. It has anti bacterial and healing properties and fights against bacteria and infections, ensuring that your lips remain healthy.
Shea Butter is also included to provide extra moisture to the lips. It is a highly nourishing substance that has been used to hydrate even the driest of skins for centuries. The substance is enriched with Vitamin E which is essential to the maintenance and generation of healthy skin cells. Bees Wax helps to cover the lips with a moisture barrier which enables the skin to retain moisture and therefore preventing them from becoming dry and chapped.
The product comes in a little tube, much like the packaging that many lips balms adopt. I think this design is more convenient than tins because your fingers don't get all sticky and in a mess. This particular tube is bright orange and it has a clear lid to protect the product. It has a twisting motion to move the product higher up the tube.
The product is a pale orange colour and smells sweet like honey. It is the perfect consistency and makes your lips feel instantly more comfortable and moisturised. The texture is just right and it glides onto your lips which dragging the delicate skin. It doesn't make my lips feel greasy and sticky but the product doesn't totally disappear into the lips either so you don't need to constantly reapply.
When I use it constantly my lips are never dry or chapped even in the winter. When I forget to use it for a few weeks and my lips become dry, I dig it out again and within a few days my lips are healthy and smooth again which makes my lip stick look a lot better!
The tube contains 5.7ml of the balm and it is relatively cheap costing around £3. It is available from most large supermarket, pharmacies and department stores as well as from a variety of online websites.
If you like this product then there are plenty of other creations by Dr Organic that may also catch your eye including Manuka Honey Body Butter, Shower gel, Deoderant, Soap, Face Masks and Rescue Cream.
Fantastic review from zombiflesh, I can only come on here and back up what she has said! I was drawn to this product because it contains Manuka Honey, and being in a bit of a Manuka Honey phase at that point in time I saw this and immediately had to have it. Manuka Honey is apparently extremely antibacterial (stronger than Tea Tree Oil), but a lot more gentle on the skin. I have always suffered with very dry lips, and cannot get along with most lip balms as I get the dreaded white gunk in the corner of my lips after using almost anything. So what's another lip balm added to the list? I thought i'd give this a try.
As zombieflesh has said, the fact that the lip balm works in the complete opposite way to others was really annoying at first! I thought I was doing something wrong or had a faulty item. I worked it out after a few minutes a gave the balm a go. You soon get used to turning the tube the other way though. On the first application, I thought great this is going to be too thick for me, it's going to give me the white bits in the corners of my mouth and i'm not going to use it again. Money wasted. But during the week a gave it a go, mainly in the evenings, and it really is a lovely lip balm. What I like the most about it is that it is very matte - it doesn't feel greasy on the lips and it sinks in really well. My lips feel really soft and hydrated after using it. I do still get *some* dead skin build up in the corner of my mouth, but that's only if I start getting paranoid and rub my lips (me and lip balms don't get on so well!). If I leave them alone and let the lip balm sink in, it does so very well.
I have had mine for a good few months and i've used about half of it now, but that's using it every day, several times a day. I think it is great value for money, and has done it's job at keeping my lips smooth and soft.
Lip balm is a daily essential for me, and I always have several on the go, one for handbag, one for home, and one for work. My lips are constantly suffering from dryness and can get chapped and sore when the weather is too cold or too hot - I can't win! I found the Dr Organic range of products in Holland and Barrett and decided to try them out by purchasing the cheapest item, a lip balm. It costs £2.99 for a 5.7ml tube, and I took up the in-store special offer of buy one get one half price.
Dr Organic say they are "committed to creating unique, natural products which are functional by design and formulated to capture the key active properties within each of the natural ingredients used."
This was very appealing to me, as I am trying to buy more natural and organic products as well as considering the impact upon the environment. I chose the Manuka Honey lip balm because I love honey and it's one of my favourite ingredients for food and beauty items. Manuka honey manuka contains unique repairing properties which claims to help keep lips soft and protected even in harsh environments.
The lip balm comes in a plastic twist up tube with a cap lid. The first difficulty I encountered was that the tube twists in the opposite way to every other lip balm or lipstick that I have ever owned! Instead of twisting clockwise to open and anti-clockwise to retract, you have to turn the tube the other way. It took a little fumbling about to realise this, and I still forget almost every time I try to apply it.
The balm itself has a pale golden orangey colour, and has a lovely strong smell of honey. Manuka honey is somewhat different to ordinary honey as it is antibacterial and can help to boost your immune system. This also helps to repair and protect your skin when applied externally. It has a stronger smell which is quite prominent in the tube but fades from the lips after a short while. It's quite a solid balm but spreads easily onto the lips without having to rub very hard at all, just a gentle sweep provides good coverage which is helpful when dealing with already damaged skin.
My lips instantly feel relieved when I apply this, and my skin is softer and actually feels protected. I apply first thing in the morning, but it does tend to wear off through the day from drinking and eating etc, so I top up maybe one or two times while I'm out and about during the day. Another great thing about this lip balm is that it contains and SPF factor of 15 which shields your delicate skin from UVA and UVB rays. This is absolutely essential in the summer, but is also useful all year round to provide effective protection from sun damage and stop your skin from ageing prematurely.
This was a wonderful introduction to the brand, I am really enjoying using this lip balm and it is an essential beauty item especially through the summer when I really need that SPF coverage. My lips have been smoother and in much better condition after using this for a couple of months. I would certainly buy from them again and would be particularly interested in trying more of the Dr Organic manuka honey range. Would recommend this highly to anyone and everyone!
