I really like DuWop products, and I first discovered them about 10 years ago on a trip to the US. DuWop are an American company, and they make really innovative beauty products, the most famous of which is probably Lip Venom. I normally buy DuWop products from Sephora in the US, but if I need a DuWop fix here in the UK then I will go to Harvey Nicks. As with most beauty products they do work out much cheaper if you buy them in the US.
I received this DuWop Lip Venom Plumping Paste as a birthday gift from a friend earlier this year, she'd been on holiday to Orlando a few weeks earlier and so I suspect that she bought it over there. She knows that I'm a huge fan of the Lip Venom range and so she figured that I'd like this as well.
Lip Plumping Paste is a treatment masque that conditions, exfoliates, and plumps up your lips. It is a rich dense cream I would say rather than an actual paste, and it contains castor seed oil and hydrogenated jojoba to condition your lips. Unlike most lip scrubs this doesn't contain sugar to exfoliate your lips, but it uses jojoba beads which are massaged into your lips to gently exfoliate and condition them. It contains the classic Lip Venom formula for the plumping effects.
The plumping paste is contained in a tube like a Carmex lip balm tube, it's shiny silver in colour, and the end of the tube has a slanted applicator like a Lancome Juicy tube. The screw on lid and the applicator are in pale pink. It's a very girly looking product! The size of the tube is 0.35 fl.oz or 10.4ml, in fact it's actually the same size as a Carmex tube.
To use the plumping paste you are supposed to squeeze a little on to the end of the applicator and then massage it into your lips using the slanted end of the applicator. I guess that this is supposed to be more hygenic than using your finger, personally I think that it actually is more hygenic to just use a clean finger to massage the paste into your lips, and then just wash your hands. It does actually all get a bit messy if you use the end of the applicator for massaging the paste in, as some of the paste will invariably slide off the applicator and the paste will end up down the tube. I've only used it this way once, I found it too difficult and too messy to do it this way. Now I just squeeze a small amount into my ring finger and use my finger to gently massage it in, it's much less mess and it's much easier. I normally just massage it into my lips for around a minute. You can feel and see the jojoba beads in the paste, and I like to gently massage them into my lips so that I feel like I'm getting the full exfoliating effects from this. The paste is a thick enough consistency so that it stays on your lips and doesn't slide off or drip down after you've massaged it in.
After you've massaged it in you wait for 10 minutes to let it work its magic.
If you've used Lip Venom before then you will know what to expect next - extreme tingling to the point of mild stinging. I don't mind the mild stinging at all, in fact l really quite like it as I know that it is plumping my lips up and creating that bee stung pout. I have had lots of bottles of Lip Venom and I'm totally used to the stinging, however I have friends that have tried it and really don't like it.
I would say that along with the mild stinging sensation this also has a bit of a warming sensation as the 10 minutes wear on. I like this effect as well, as again it makes me think that it's doing its job. The paste smells and tastes a bit like cinnamon, much like the original Lip Venom does.
After your 10 minutes are up you wipe it off with a damp flannel, I normally just wipe it off with a face wipe. It's easy to wipe off and just takes a couple of wipes with a face wipe and all traces of the paste will have vanished from my lips. This then should leave you with conditioned, exfoliated and plumped up lips.
I do find that this does plump my lips up a little bit, it doesn't plump them up as much as Lip Venom, but there is certainly a noticeable difference and they are definitely fuller. It does however leave my lips wonderfully smooth and supple, it leaves my lips so super soft and in really great condition. My lips feel really hydrated after using this, and any dry patches are banished and exfoliated away. It also brings a much more natural red colour to my lips, a kind of just bitten lips look which lasts for ages.
I think that this does a really great job of conditioning, exfoliating and plumping up my lips. I'm really happy with the results that I get when using this, and it's something that I'll definitely buy again when this one runs out. I've used it about a dozen times so far, and there still seems to be loads left in the tube, I think that I'll probably end up with around 30 applications from the tube.
