“ Brand: Figs & Rouge / Type: Lip Treatment „
Being a bit of a beauty product addict, I always like to try out new things and vary the brands that I use. One of my most exciting discoveries has been finding online companies that provide beauty boxes. The idea is that you will be sent a box every month which will contain a selection of various make-up, skin care, fragrance products etc for you to try out, and I have been trying a few from different suppliers. I received a full size version of this Figs & Rouge Cherry & Vanilla Balm in a previous delivery.
Lip balm is a daily essential for me, and I usually have several on the go, one for handbag, one for home, and one for work. My lips are constantly suffering from dryness and can get chapped and sore when the weather is too cold or too hot - I can't win! This balm is made by natural skincare brand Figs & Rouge and is a Soil Association certified organic product made of 100% natural organic ingredients. It costs RRP £3.49 for an 8ml tin.
Product description: "Protects your skin against dryness! Ultra smooth with Organic ingredients which are both Nourishing and Soothing!"
This balm comes in a neat little tin that is perfectly suited for putting into a bag or purse and taking about with you for use on the go. The packaging looks totally gorgeous and has a very pretty Art Nouveau type design over the tin, with lots of lovely attention to detail. This is the type of product that would be nice to give or receive as a gift, and you'd be proud to be seen with it on your dressing table or in your make-up bag as it is very attractive. The tin also has a neat design feature in that the edges of the top and bottom sections both curve slightly inwards towards the centre of the tin where they join together. This means that you can get a good firm grip on both pieces and lift the lid away easily, unlike other similar products like Vaseline which I find to have very fiddly tins and cause me problems with opening them properly even though the Vaseline tin is about 2-3 times bigger than this Figs & Rouge one! The product must be pressed onto your fingertip and then transferred to the lips by rubbing it directly over the skin. The shallow depth of the tin means that even with my long fingernails I can manage to get direct contact with my fingertips and avoid scooping up any excess under my nails.
This balm is not only designed for use as a regular lip balm, instead it is a multi-purpose product that can be used on the lips, face and body. I have tried using this balm on some small dry patches of skin on my body. The balm leaves behind a shiny, greasy residue which will easily transfer onto clothing or other surfaces if I'm not careful. Because it feels so greasy it takes a long time to absorb fully and it tends to just rub off before it's had a chance to actually moisturise my skin properly. I quickly learned that it was a waste of time to use the balm in this way and use it solely on my lips now.
The balm itself appears very thick and heavy in the tin, with a solid white colour to it. The texture is a little odd as it is quite dense but melts almost instantly when touched due to the transfer of body heat, and turns quite runny. Upon looking closely at the balm it is full of lots of small grainy particles so it doesn't feel very smooth when applying it onto my skin. Once applied the balm feels very light and gentle, spreading easily without the need to rub it in. The balm is colourless but it does leave a glossy finish behind which looks natural on my lips and is pretty in a subtle way. I like to wear this balm under my lipstick to stop it from drying my lips further and it works well in providing a moisturising base for my make-up.
I find that this lip balm can wear away quite quickly and I make sure to carry it around with me to top it up as and when I need when I'm out and about. I believe this is due to the glossy/greasy finish and the balm does not really seem to penetrate the skin to give any deep hydration. It does keep my lips feeling soft and smooth and in good condition, provided that I keep putting more on every couple of hours. It does not have an added SPF so I may switch to an alternative product if our long-awaited summer season ever finally arrives.
I like to use natural and organic beauty products as they seem to be better quality and I don't have to worry about adding more chemicals into my body. This is a 100% organic product that only uses natural ingredients. I am happy in the knowledge that this is good for my skin and also avoids the need for chemical products during the farming process. This Cherry & Vanilla balm has a delicious sweet scent with just a hint of sharpness to it, and I think it has a taste similar to fizzy cherry cola bottle sweets. This makes it a real pleasure to use and the yummy scent is one of my favourite things about the product.
As with the other Figs & Rouge balm that I tried previously, I'm in two minds about this product. On the one hand it is an affordable 100% organic product that comes beautifully packaged in a cute little tin that is convenient to carry around and has a lovely sweet scent to it. Unfortunately in this case although it does help to moisturise my lips I find that it's not very long lasting and needs to be reapplied frequently, as well as being a bit too greasy for use elsewhere on my body. I am tempted to try other products in the range to see if I can find one which suits all of my needs, but I don't think I would buy this particular variety again.
Figs & Rouge are a company that specialise in 100% pure and natural products. They have now broadened their range of products and sell lip and body balm, lip tints and hand creams, all of which are organic. The product that I am reviewing today is the Cherry and Vanilla balm. This can be used on your lips, face and body.
The balm comes in a small round tin with a lid meaning application is done with your finger. I like this sort of packaging as it means the lip balm is safe when it is rattling around in your handbag. The tin has a really pretty retro design on the front, it makes them perfect to give as gifts.
The over riding scent of the balm is definitely the cherry followed by a light citrus scent. Personally I cannot really smell the vanilla. However it does smell extremely yummy.
To apply you just need to use your finger as I previously mentioned. The balm comes out of the tin really easily without having to really prod and poke at it.
The product glides really easily over your lips and they instantly feel hydrated. The product does sit on your lips for a while but not in a horrible sort of way. It leaves your lips with a nice sheen while it is slowly absorbed providing you with moisturised lips for longer. A little while ago in the space of a day my lips became really really dry. I applied a thick coat of this over night and when I woke up my lips felt lovely and soft with product still visible.
I have used this on my skin and although it does provide some relief I don't really like the greasiness of it and much prefer and ordinary body moisturiser.
You can buy this product for around £3.49 which I do not think is a bad price considering that it is an organic product which is free from any nasties.
I would give this product 4 stars.
This is a review of a marvellous beauty balm I received in a beauty box recently. I am a big fan of lip balm and gloss so I was pleased to try this new brand.
What is it?
The main use of the balm is for lips but it is classed as a multi use balm so you can put it on lips, face, hands and body targeting dry areas. It is 100% pure, natural and organic and suitable for all skin types. The tin I have is cherry and vanilla which I would never have picked for myself but I am loving it and have been using it loads every day.
First of all, the packaging was so pretty I was reluctant to open it! The tin of beauty balm is mounted on a card and looks really old fashioned but in a good way. The actual tin is slightly shaped like an hourglass (although it is flat and round) but it makes it easier to open than a normal tin. The top has a slightly enlarged lip on the edge so you can get a good grip.
I use this mainly on the lips and it is easy to pick up a bit on your finger, it feels a bit grainy on the finger but just melts on to the lips and even though the flavour is cherry and vanilla, it feels a little bit tingly and minty to me. Not overwhelming or powerfully so, just pleasantly. I would also use this as a cuticle treatment on my nails to massage in and moisturise the nail beds. Elbows may also benefit from this product if they get a little dry.
Price and availability
My pot is 12ml in size so fits in a pocket or purse nicely. Boots sell a 17ml pot for £4.99 in four different 'flavours' but not the one I have. I am loving the sound of the coco vanilla one that is for sale at Boots though! The feel unique website has an 8ml version of my pot for £3.49 so it looks like you need to shop around for this product for the best price and size. I think this natural and organic product is priced very well and certainly opens the door for multiple purchases to try other flavours in the range.
I love this balm and the fact that it is organic is such a bonus. I just want to buy a few more to try the different flavours although I am more than happy with the cherry and vanilla fragrance I got in my beauty box. I find the product long lasting and versatile and a great go to product that instantly improves the condition of my lips. For the price I think it is excellent and a repurchase is definitely on the cards.
