“ Brand: Hawaiian Tropic / Gloss / Type: Lip Gloss „
I love nothing more than a bit of sunbathing and catching some rays and although I protect my skin religiously with suntan lotion up until I bought this I had never really thought about a sun protection factor for my lips. It is important to think about it though because the skin on our lips is actually really thin so very susceptible to the sun and I do find that if I don't have any lip balm on in the sun my lips can get quite dry and cracked.
This lip gloss is described as, "A seductive glossy sheen with 12 hour moisturisation, including broad spectrum UVA and UVB protection.
I was actually really attracted to this lip balm because of the really cute Hawaiian packaging and also the amazing smell. The smell and flavour is described as Island Berry and it has a wonderful tropical smell and taste to it, something a bit different than regular lip balms and that smell stays on your lips for quite a long time after application. Hawaiian tropic call it delicious indulgence with juicy moisturisation and I would definitely agree with that, my lips feel nice and juicy and sweet and not slick or sticky like some lip glosses can leave them.
The lip gloss gives my lips a wonderful red/berry colour sheen to them, just enough colour to give them some definition but not too much that you look over done, especially if you are wearing this lip gloss on the beach or at the pool. What I like about it is that its waterproof also so I have swum with it and it stays on my lips after I have got out of the pool so not only do I stay looking quite nice, the lip gloss also gives me sun protection for my lips whilst I am in the water too which is great.
Hawaiian Tropic say that, " Not only will you help protect your lips with SPF 20, but you will also keep them soft with the Aloe Vera, Cocoa Butter and Vitamins A, C & E enriched formulas." It's nice to know that there are all these helpful ingredients in it which really work well on my lips and stop them from drying out in the sun too.
This lip balm is a little expensive, £7.49 for a 20g tube but then you are getting something a bit more than just a luscious sheen, you are also getting added sun protection so in my opinion its well worth it and as I only use this for holidays or when I am out int he sun my tube is lasting for a really long time.
I'm quite a big fan of wearing lip gloss as my lips tend to look quite washed out otherwise but I'm often wary of wearing it in the sun as I burnt while wearing it one year. I came across this lip gloss while I was looking for holiday items and it caught my eye due to having an SPF of 20. I snapped it up to use on my holiday.
THE LIP GLOSS
The gloss is a red shade, which looks quite vibrant in the tube but thankfully is a less intense shade once it's on my lips. It gives a subtle red stain but nothing too OTT and is quite glossy, as you would expect from a lip gloss. All in all, it adds a touch of colour with the added bonus of being protective.
It comes in a tube without an applicator and as the gloss is quite sticky, it could be messy to apply easily. Despite feeling quite sticky on application, I can't feel it once it's on my lips so it's not one of those horrible glosses that still feels sticky throughout. My lips also feel quite moisturised, which isn't always the case with lip glosses as some can be quite drying.
I paid around £3.50 for a tube and despite several applications per day for around a week, there wasn't much of a dent in the tube so I consider it to be good value for money.
I wore this lip gloss on holiday in quite hot temperatures for a whole week and did not experience any burning of my lips so I was more than happy with the product and can thoroughly recommend it as a lip gloss that isn't too intense colour-wise and will stop your lips from burning in the sun.
I bought this lip gloss, as i hate when the sun causes your lips to dry out and go all cracked, and i am in love with the Hawaiian Tropic suntan lotions and after suns, so this seemed to be the perfect solution.
When i wear it, it gives my lips a lovely shine, whilst keeping them incredibly hydrated. The length of time it stays on for really depends on where you are, i wear it occasionally in England it stays on for quite a while, but when i wore it on holiday i did have to reapply it a few times as the sun dried it out.
It has a very lovely berry smell but does have a funny aftertaste, and love the idea that im protecting my lips at the same time with SPF 25.
It is quite water resistant, like i mentioned when i wore it on holiday i was obviously drinking lots of water and it did stay on thanks to the glossy texture of it.
I would say it is pretty good value for money as it is both a lip gloss and suntan lotion combined, i will definitely be looking at buying it again for this years holiday.
This juicy fruity lip gloss is from hawaiian tropics sun protection range. It claims to moisturise and protect, with its ingredients of aloe vera, cocoa butter and added vitamins. It also has a spf of 25 and protects from uva and uvb for 12 hours. Hawaiian tropica has another 4 different lip products in this range and comes in a 20ml tube. Its made in usa and the shelf life is 12 months.
It is avaliable at places such as Boots, Superdrug and Saver and costs around £3-5
MY EXPERIENCE AND OPINION
Firstly I got this product for free with something else I was buying. The great thing about this is the smell. It smells so nice I just want to eat it all up! It has a nice thick consistancy and you apply it straight from the tube which is nice and easy. The colous is very faint as really its just a tint to the gloss not full on colour. I llike the colour and I think the gloss is brilliant, for me though it doesnt last very long, and I find myself repllying every hour or so. This also leads to the skin on the inside of my lips going crusty and white and sticking together ..... Not a good look, and not what yoou want from your lipgloss.
Thank god I didnt spend money on this, as Iv used it a couple of times but thats it. I wouldnt recommend this product and apart from smelling nice and easy apllication its not a great stay on product. so ladies save your money and buy something that works.
Thanks for reading and rating.
When it comes to looking after your skin with regard to UV rays there is a wide range of products to help ranging from creams, sprays, mists, pouches and even wipes. However, when it comes to protecting your lips - which are the most delicate of areas there does seem to be limited products. I spend a lot of time outside even when in the UK I feel the need to use products with an SPF to keep my skin safe and this goes my lips too. I have previously used the Vaseline Lip Therapy formulated to keep your lips safe in the sun (the yellow tin) but find it hard to apply in the heat I wanted something else, so the search began.
After having a look in various pharmacies and online I came across in Boots the Hawaiian Tropic Aloha Kiss Island Berry Lip Gloss. It was the last one on the shelf and was reduced - I bought mine at the beginning of the year. It was quickly plucked from the shelf, paid for and brought home. I was away for a week in the sun back in March so this was an ideal buy. I think we have all heard of the brand Hawaiian Tropic the creators of various sun lotions, creams, sprays that I think can be found just about everywhere! Not a brand I would necessarily buy simply as I prefer others but I was definitely willing to give this lip gloss a go.
So what exactly is it? The Hawaiian Tropic Aloha Kiss Island Berry Lip Gloss is pretty simple! It is a lipgloss which has SPF 20 to help protect your lips whilst helping them keep fully looked after by using moisturising ingredients such as cocoa butter and Vitamins A, C and E. Not only is it full of moisturising properties your lips can also be soothed with aloe vera so in one little tube this actually promises to do a lot! As well as having a fruity flavour too. A definite change from your little tin of Vaseline!
The lip gloss comes in a slim line plastic tube with a matching plastic screw top. To look at it looks exactly like all those other tubed lip glosses you get so the design isn't original! The tube is completely clear so you can see the full contents and the gorgeous berry red colour of the lip gloss itself. On the front of the tube there is the Hawaiian Tropic font logo together with the product name, the font is gold which I guess is to give a sun/summery feel to it. On the back of the tube there is the typical information you'd expect such as ingredients, contact information and briefly how to use. The picture on Dooyoo depicts the lip gloss in a box - mine came without the box which may be why it was reduced.
To use the lip gloss it is incredibly straight forward. You simply squeeze the tube gently and apply to your lips. Simples. However, the key is not to use too much as even though it has quite a thick consistency it won't just come out the tube too quickly if too much is applied then it just won't be effective and you will end up with ridiculously glossy lips which is not particularly attractive. You just need to apply a thin layer and you can blend in slightly with the tip of the tube of lip gloss, the angled applicator or you can dab with your finger tip to get your desired look.
Now I have used this lip gloss both in the UK and abroad and I am pleased to say it does keep my lips adequately moisturised and protected. It does have quite a sticky touch to it but it won't last for hours to you will need to re-apply throughout the day which isn't a problem for me really. It does have an "Island Berry" aroma to it and a slightly sweet taste which as much as I like the aroma it does give a funny after taste which isn't as offensive as other lip balms/glosses I have used before so not a big deal. It does however keep my lips moisturised, it doesn't dry them out it simply keeps them protected which is the main aim. What is also quite nice is that it gives your lips a subtle pink colour which is nice and has quite a summery feel.
I really don't have any complaints about this lip gloss at all as it looks after my lips whilst out in the sun perfectly well as it keeps them soft. Hawaiian Tropic do advise that this is for everyday use which I tend to do as I always keep a tube of it in my handbag. However, I do find it a decent size for holiday use as the tube is incredibly slim and will easily fit in most beach bags, it's consistency also doesn't change if left in the heat or in the cooler temps unlike Vaseline. Definitely an item I'd recommend if you are going on holiday. I will give it 4 stars, simply knocking off 1 star due to the sticky feel (although once it is worn off it doesn't leave a residue of any sort) and because of the slightly odd aftertaste.
~ Useful Information ~
Brand: Hawaiian Tropic
Price: £7.49 (July 2012 Boots)
Availability: Boots or pharmacies and Hawaiian Tropic stockists
A couple of years ago I got sunburnt lips whilst travelling around the West Indies. This was unexpected (as I had stupidly never given my lips much thought when applying sunscreen), uncomfortable and inconvenient. Since that experience I have taken great care to ensure I always wear sun protection specifically designed for lips when I'm in the sun.
My most recent buy was Hawaiian Tropic Moisturising Lip Gloss. Hawaiian Tropic is a trademark of Tanning Research Laboratories Inc, a US company, but their products that are distributed in the UK are produced in Ireland. The lip gloss cost me 99 pence in my local independent chemist for a 20ml tube. If you are thinking about trying this for yourself do shop around because it is £4.19 on the Hawaiian Tropic website. It is available in 2 flavours/colours; Island Berry which is a deep pinky - red colour and Mango Papaya which is an orangey - red colour. I bought the Island Berry variety.
Packaging - The lip gloss comes in a small transparent plastic tube, with a plastic screw on lid. Removing the lid reveals the application method; the end of the tube is slanted, with a hole in the middle. This is a really convenient way of applying lip gloss, which I prefer to using my fingers or a brush as it is far quicker and less messy.
Product - The lip gloss is a nice thick consistency, which comes easily out of the tube. The fruity fragrance is apparent even before it is applied to the lips. It glides on smoothly and feels pleasant on the lips, not sticky at all. It provides factor 25 broad spectrum UVA & UVB protection. The back of the tube states it provides 12 hour moisturisation. I find it is very effective at moisturising my lips and although the moisturising effect may last for 12 hours I find I need to reapply the gloss after about 2 hours. This could be because I tend to be in and out of the sea frequently, or possibly I eat and drink more often than the manufacturers expect, but I expect it is because the gloss tastes so good I find myself unconsciously licking my lips to give myself another hit of the sweet, fruity, berry taste.
Effects - Although the colour in the tube appears quite dark, when applied it is a sheer pinky-red, not too obvious, but more of a natural tint that enhances my own lip colour. The shine is fabulous and lasts for a couple of hours. The protection seems to work well, I used it on a 6 hour kayaking trip recently (most of this time was spent in direct sun, including the reflected glare off the water), and although I reapplied it a couple of times by the end of the day my lips still felt comfortable, not at all tight, sore or tender.
Before I went on holiday I was in Boots sniffing at the amazing Hawaiian Tropic sun lotions, when I noticed a 'NEW' Hawaiian Tropic lip gloss. Being a lip care junkie I was immediately attracted to it and it smells lovely so of course I subsequently bought it.
*I should point out first of all that the product I have is a little different to the one pictured - mine did not come in a box and it is SPF 25 - not 20 as shown.*
So, this Island Berry lip gloss comes in a fairly standard 20ml 'Juicy Tubes' type, er, tube, with a screw top and a slanted application end so it can be applied straight to the lips with no need for an applicator. The tube is clear and colourless so the watermelon pink gloss can be seen inside - this is handy as you can always see how much you have left. According to the tube, this gloss gives both UVA and UVB protection - three star 'good' UVA protection - and 12 hour moisturisation.
It is certainly easy to apply straight from the tube, even without a mirror, although you have to be careful not to squeeze the tube too hard as a little goes a long way. The colour is lovely on - perfect for on the beach as it just gives a bit of sheen and a subtle enhancement of your own lip colour rather than changing the colour of your lips. This is not a 'lip plumping' gloss so it does not have that effect and does not tingle or make your lips feel anything in particular. The smell is absolutely divine - if you like sweet fruity smells this is one for you. It also tastes rather good too so try not to lick it all off once you've applied it!
I'm not normally a fan of lip glosses as they seem to have something in them that catches the back of my throat when I breathe in making me cough (does anyone else get that?), but this is one of the rare ones that doesn't do that. I found that it seemed quite a light gloss compared to others and so you don't get as much of a heavy, sticky feeling with it. As for the '12 hour moisturisation' claim - I don't know about that. The gloss seems to be quite shiny and glossy for half an hour after application, then fades a bit although my lips did still feel moisturised and certainly not dry for a few hours after application.
Of course, this is essentially a sun protection product so it is recommended that you reapply frequently. As such a product, I think it did a sterling job. On my Ibiza holiday in July I didn't apply as frequently as I probably should have and although my lips did feel a little bit more sensitive than usual, they didn't have any major problems such as burning, cracking or cold sores.
This cost me around £4 in Boots if I remember correctly and I think that's a bargain compared to many other lip glosses, especially given the added sun protection factor.
