I Love...Raspberry & Blackberry Glossy Lipbalm
Advantages: Softens and moisturises lips in the short term, departs a nice colour
Disadvantages: Does not smell very fruity, you need to re-apply often
The "I love..." range of bath and body products includes fruity scented items such as body butters and shower gels. I have seen the biggest selection available in Superdrug, although they are also available in Savers and Morrrisons, and occasionally in the poundshops. There are also numerous online suppliers. I paid 99p for a 15g tub of my balm, but I subsequently found out I could have paid 89p in Savers. I still think that even a pound is a good price to pay though.
The balm is packaged in a simple clear tub with a black screw on lid. I do prefer lipstick like balms in general because I prefer not to have to use my fingers to apply them, but I love... don't offer these as far as I am aware. This one doesn't feel too sticky or greasy which does make using your fingers to re-apply the balm a bit more pleasant if you are out and about. When I opened the tub, I expected to be greeted by a lovely smell, but sadly I wasn't. I especially like the scent of the two berries used in this which is why I chose the product in the first place. This is disappointing. My first whiff gave me a plasticy aroma more than a fruity one. I could detect some raspberry scent if I took a deep sniff, but the base product seems to overpower any blackberry. Out of the tub, and on my lips the fruit smell seemed a bit stronger but it still didn't seem all that natural to me.
On the plus side, the balm does feel nicer than it smells. It is reasonably solid in the tub, so you don't pick up too much more than you need if you give the surface a light glide over with your fingers. The product is called a glossy lip balm, and it really is a cross between a softening balm and a lip gloss. It does not feel as sticky as a gloss, but adds a similiar finish to your lips. The colour of the product in the tub is a deep raspberry pink, but it imparts a slightly lighter shade to your lips. I was impressed by the level of pigmentation, and I have been happy to use this on it's own when I would otherwise have applied a light lipstick or gloss. It doesn't last very long, no more than a couple of hours, and it won't survive eating or drinking. The low price of the product makes this less of an issue for me than it would be otherwise, as I can afford to top up coverage often. I love... say that their balm will leave your lips feeling soft and moisturised. I would say that this is true in the short term, and that it does a good job of soothing lips that are already dry. It feels a little greasy at first, but I didn't continue to notice that shortly after application, and it is no worse than Vaseline in this respect. It tastes better too, less oily, but still not of the fruits to me. The moisturising effect is not long lasting though, and this is another reason why frequent application is necessary, even if you do not mind the fact the colour has faded.
One thing that struck me as worthy of a mention, was a line of information contained under the ingredients label. It is warning not to swallow the product, as it isn't a food. I feel that it isn't possible to never swallow a lip product, so this doesn't make me too happy. I have seen this warning on other products, and it is possible that the brand just want to cover themselves should anyone decide to eat the whole tub! That somehow doesn't really reassure me much.
If you don't mind being told never to swallow the balm, and want a tinted and softening product, then this is good value. If you wanted to buy it purely because of it's fruit labelling, I think you will be disappointed by both the taste and scent. I won't buy it again myself, for that reason.

Summary: A gently moistening lip balm that you mustn't swallow!
