      A lovely organic lip balm

Being a bit of a beauty product addict, I always like to try out new things and vary the brands that I use. One of my most exciting discoveries has been finding online companies that provide beauty boxes. These usually contain a selection of various make-up, skin care, fragrance products etc, and I have been trying a few from different suppliers. I received a full size version of this John Masters Organics Lip Calm in a previous delivery from "Amarya". You can find further information at www.amarya.co.uk and www.johnmasters.co.uk.

Lip balm is a daily essential for me, and I always have several on the go, one for handbag, one for home, and one for work. My lips are constantly suffering from dryness and can get chapped and sore when the weather is too cold or too hot - I can't win! This Lip "Calm" is made by the company John Masters, known for their organic hair care and skin care products. It costs around £6.00 for a 4g tube and can be easily found through online stockists.

Product description: "Soothing, moisturizing and invigorating, the finest organic ingredients are combined in this extraordinarily effective lip balm. Perfect for lip protection against cold and wind. Sweet and light flavor with an invigorating scent. Made with 10 certified-organic ingredients."

The lip balm itself comes in a small white plastic tube and has a pull-off cap lid. You apply the lip balm by turning a section at the bottom of the tube to move the product out of the top. The tube is kind of ugly and plain looking, and not particularly impressive to look at, I doubt I would have chosen to buy this straight off the shelf as there is nothing about it to catch my eye. The twist tube is my favoured method of packaging for lip balms, as this means I can apply neatly straight from the tube onto my lips, without having to get it on my fingers and have a sticky residue left behind, or end up with it caught underneath my fingernails. It's easy to pop the little tube into a purse or handbag and I take this everywhere with me for when I need to reapply it.

The lip balm itself is very soft and has an oily feel to it. This might sound unpleasant but it's actually nice and soothing and feels comforting when I rub it onto my lips. It spreads easily without causing aggravating any dry or damaged areas and seems to inject moisture instantly. There are a number of natural oils included in the balm which help to care for damaged skin and make it feel soft and smooth, including olive, jojoba and borage oils. There are also tangerine, lemon and lime oils which give a lovely fresh fragrance and provide antioxidant properties. I thought that it would have a nice citrusy flavour but because the fruit extracts are so pure the balm actually has quite a bitter taste.

I find that this balm will sit on the surface of my skin and coats my lips with a protective layer, as well as providing moisture that keeps my lips feeling soft. This doesn't feel sticky at all, and it gives a subtle looking sheen which is quite natural and looks nice on its own, although I do also like to wear this under my lipstick to give an extra moisture boost. I apply first thing in the morning, but it does tend to wear off through the day when I am drinking and eating etc, so I make sure I have lip balm with me to top it up as and when I need when I'm out and about. The only down side that I can see is that it does not have an added SPF I will only be using this through the colder winter months where I do not need that sort of sun protection on my lips.

I can happily recommend this John Masters Lip Calm, as it keeps my lips soft and in good condition and the organic ingredients really help to nourish and care for my skin. It has a lovely soft feel to it along with a great natural fruity scent. I do have to top it up regularly due to the oily texture having a tendency to rub off and transfer easily, but overall it gives the protection I need to keep my delicate skin in good condition.
