I love Boots and their 3 for 2 offers, especially at this time of the year when ive got a list as long as my arm that I need buy and living a few doors up from a Boots store it makes the job quite quick, well that is until I remember I need some new lip balm as I've lost the one I was using.
The Sanctuary Spa lip balm was on the 3 for 2 offers and as I wanted to try a new face mask and some foot lotion, so the Lip Balm was free in the end, perfect. I don't really know a lot about The Sanctuary Spa other than I like most of the products from their range that I have tried so far. But when I Googled them I found that as a company they have been around for the last 30 years and their flagship spa is based in Covent Garden here in London with two further spa's in Richmond and Cambridge. So as well as actually running a Spa which has every treatement you can think of you can also buy their products online through their website or you can buy them in Boots, which is what I did.
The Lip Balm is sold in a metal tin and retails are £3.99 if you don't get it on an offer and it is similar to the tin of Vaseline you can also buy, however this tin only contains 10g of Lip Balm and I bought it because it states "This indulgent Lip Balm has been formulated to provide lips with intense moisturisation, leaving them feeling silky smooth and nourished" which in this weather is perfect, even more so if we get the dreaded snow storm that the weather girl seems almost too delighted to promise this coming weekend.
With this tin of Lip Balm it is really easy to remove the lip because you simply twist it slightly and it immediately comes off, you don't need to exert too much effort or pressure. Then once the lid has been removed, inside the tin you will see a light orangey coloured Lip Balm which has a peculiar fruity yet menthol aroma to it but you need to put the tin right under your nose to be able to smell it properly. The Balm inside does look very similar and reminds me of Vaseline except it isn't quite as thick a texture as Vaseline is and it doesn't feel as greasy on your fingertip.
As always with any product I buy I wanted to see what the ingredients where within this lip butter and the first two ingredients are Cocoa Butter and Shea Butter both of which are now widely used in cosmetics, creams, lotions and potions because it is absorbed into the skin and helps to smooth and moisturise the skin to replenish lost moisture to keep the skin soft and smooth. Almond Oil also features and it also acts as a moisturiser for the lips as well as well as helping to relieve irritation, inflammation and itching. Macadamia Oil is quick to absorb itself into your skin to leave it feeling soft and smooth and works well with Almond Oil. There is also a hint of Passion Fruit which I only realised from reading the blurb about the Lip Balm and whilst it wouldn't be the peculiar fruity smell I am thinking of, it is most definitely the one giving the aroma. The final ingredient that I am going to mention is the menthol which instantly feels cool on your lips as soon as the balm is applied and this brings about a slight tingling sensation as your lips are treated and soothed, but it is a nice tingling feeling and last only a matter of minutes on your lips.
When applying this product to your lips, all you need to do is remove the lid and using your index finger wipe it across the top of the balm, in doing so you should have more than enough balm on the one fingertip to apply to both your top and bottom lip. As you apply the balm to your lips you can feel a very slight tingling sensation and whilst the balm looks greasy, once applied it instantly absorbs itself so there is no trace left on your lips. Whenever I buy a new Lip Butter, Balm or Cream I always taste it, but with this Lip Balm there isn't anything left on your lips to taste, because everything has immediately absorbed itself there is no taste of passion fruit or anything menthol to lick off, so for me this is an added bonus because I would find it very difficult to resist tasting the balm if there was actually something to taste.
After using this product for the last few weeks, I am still using the same 10g tin and I am yet to make a dent in the balm itself. The instructions say that you can apply it as often as you want and in my case it is at least 2 or 3 times a day, its one of the products which is small enough to carry around in my hand bag and then gets used as I feel my lips beginning to go dry. It does keep your lips soft and smooth and like similar products in this range the more you use them the better your lips feel. In the cold weather I do find my lips become very dry even though I am applying lip balm, so I find it is much better to combine using a balm with my Lush lip scrub to ensure any dead skin lingering around is removed because this can prevent the balm being absorbed and working and I use my Lip Scrub at least twice a week.
So would I recommend this product? I would because it is a product that works and works well and it is readily available, however it isn't one of my favourite lip balms and I would only buy it again to keep in the office to use in emergencies or incase I lost another balm that I had been using. So it's a good second choice, but not my first choice of lip balm.
