I recently purchased a few different skin ceuticals product out of curiosity about whether the brand lives up to the large price tag. This is a good product but with so many more affordable options out there I can't justify buying it again.
The product comes in a small silver bottle with pump and lid. The pump works exactly as it should do and the size is very handy for a lip product. I like the design of the bottle, it is functional and attractive whilst being simple enough that you know they have invested more in the product itself than a gimmicky design. One pump is plenty to coat your lips and I would advise a little more if your lips are particularly chapped or dry. My main issue with the design is not being able to see how much is left inside the bottle and also not being able to access the contents once it does start running out. This is a major annoyance for me especially with expensive products where you want to get your moneys worth.
The product is essentially a lip conditioner rather than a salve or balm. It is aimed at relieving sore, dry or chapped lips and this is where it distinguishes itself from a regular lip salve. I would therefore save it for occasions where my lips are feeling dry. It is also something I would apply in moderation because of the price of the product. That is fine because it has a specific use so however much I like it I know I can reserve it for when my lips need a little more nourishment. I probably wouldn't use it in the daytime but maybe in the mornings or when I go to sleep to moisturiser over night. I also would avoid using it with colours or tints - it is expensive so I primarily use it for the specific purpose it is designed for.
It is supposed to make your lips appear fuller and reduce the appearance of fine lines. I have yet to find a product that actually does this so I wasn't especially disappointed when I found this once failed to do what it says. It does provide UV protection which is a little added bonus but not something I necessarily look for either. I didn't see much improvement in the look or feel of my lips other than that it reduced redness and soreness around the skin.
I think if this product came in a tube or tub it would earn more points from me. The pump is flashy but unnecessary - if a product is good I want to be able to use all of it. I do think it is probably the most effective lip product I've used on chapped and sore lips so if this is a consistent problem for you then I would definitely consider purchasing it. However, at £28.00 a tube I would shop around for cheaper products which are effective for you and use this if nothing else suits.
For me there are other products on the market which are maybe slightly less effective but cheaper and more versatile.
The skin cuticles antioxidant lip repair was a spontaneous purchase I made a few months ago. I don't necessarily have a problem with my lips but I do get chapped lips and I am noticing that they are looking less plumper the older I get. I tried out the tester and really liked it so I decided to treat myself. I was in Philadelphia airport and bought it from one of the stores there. I paid $34 for it and it is well worth the money. I have been looking online for this item as my mum fell in love with it when she tried it and I want to get her one for Christmas. I have seen it for around £27.00 including delivery.
I guess the best way of describing this, would be to say that it is an intensive lip conditioner. It is too expensive to apply liberally throughout the day, so I tend to just use it on a morning and on an evening after cleansing my face. Throughout the day I will use a chap stick or lip gloss.
The product comes in a little pump bottle with a lid. One pump is enough to cover your lips. I like to massage it in quite slowly as it instantly gives relief to chapped lips. It soaks in quickly which means that it is the perfect base for applying lip stick on top. I always use it under lip stick as it keeps my lips supple and smooth, making the colour go on a lot more evenly.
I use the product on a night before bed, which is my favourite time to apply it as I like to think that it is working while I sleep. I wake up with smoother lips and since using it I have not suffered the usual sore chapped lips I get from being out in the elements.
The product contains some active ingredients. These include silymarin and vitamin E, these are both antioxidants and help to combat the premature signs of ageing. It also helps shield the lips from uv rays that again can cause ageing and dryness.
The product hydrates lips by using special botanical emollients, by making the lips more hydrated the fine lines are pushed out and the lips look fuller. There is also an exfoliating ingredient that helps speed up skin renewal, getting rid of dead skin cells which keeps the lips looking healthy and full.
I find the lip product very successful and I have noticed visible improvements in the look and feel of my lips. I do get concerned about the look of my lips as I do have quite thin lips to start with and I want to keep them looking young and fresh.
I think that now I have started using this product I will have to continue using it. I can definitely see the benefits in the condition of my lips.
A concern I have about the product concerns the pump. As it gets towards the bottom of the bottle it doesn't seem to be sucking up as much liquid and it needs a good shake in order to work. Only a minor set back really as I still prefer it to a tube; it's much more hygienic.
