      Superdrug pearl lip balm

      WHAT IS IT?

This is lip balm that is made by Superdrug. It says that it will moisturise your lips and leave them with a little bit of a pearl coat.

      WHAT I THINK

I think this is very bad lip balm and I will not buy it again even though it is very cheap. The packaging is very nice because it is pink with a pair of lips printed onto it but that is the best thing about it.

The lip balm is very hard and feels like wax so it drags the skin on my lips when I apply it. That is not a very nice feeling and when my lips are cracked or chapped the dragging makes them hurt sometimes.

It does not moisturise my lips very good and they feel just as dry when I use it as before, I think that there is not any point in using it if it does not make my lips feel moisturised and better.

One other thing is that the stick broke and I know that you can repair lip balm if they break but I have not repaired this one because I do not think it is effective enough for me to spend my time on and I think I would instead like to buy a new lip balm than try to fix this.

      ANYTHING ELSE

This lip balm cost only £1.29 but it is not value because it feels like you are using wax on your lips and it is not very pleasing to use, it does not work either so it is a waste of money even though it is very cheap.

      Disadvantages

      Nice product

      - 99p, can be bought in store and online
      - Preservative free
      - BUAV approved

**What Is Said About The Product**
"Provides a subtle shimmer. Enhances, protects and cares for your lips."

      **Packaging**
The packaging is very simple for the product. The lid of the item is a baby pink colour, with the writing in white. The part of the packaging that holds the lip balm is also white. The front of the item has the product name, a little description and the signature star, showing that it is a Superdrug branded product. It also has a white lipstick kiss on the front of the item. The back of the product contains information about the item, recycling logos and the BUAV logo. It also includes the Superdrug website and address.

      **My Opinon**
Usually I only use a plain lip balm on my lips, but I needed an easy lip balm that I could apply whilst driving on long journeys, that was safe. This was perfect, the lid lifted on and off easily and you only had to turn the bottom of the packaging to get the balm out. I may be a bit strange, but I do like the faint smell the product gives of. I can't quiet place it, but it is not un-pleasant. The feel of the balm on my lips is nice. It isn't sticky at all. For someone with really cracked lips I would use a more sticky lip balm before or after. This product in my opinion is bought more for the shimmer effect rather than whether it helps dry lips. The shimmer of the balm is ok, apply too much and your lips look weird. And because the colour is a light pink with this pearl effect, it may not suit everyone skin tones. Including my own. If you like a little effect on your lips, but do not want to wear full lipstick then this is your product. But unfortunately for me, besides it being easy to apply, the colour really does not suit me.

      Advantages

      Disadvantages

Not one I will be buying again

I recently asked my husband Mark to pop into Superdrug and pick me up some lip balm in his lunch break, I wanted one to keep in my coat pocket and for this I prefer one that's like a lipstick, they are so much easier to apply when you are out and about, he chose this one purely because its pink.

Superdrug Pearl Lip balm is sold attached to a pink card, the Superdrug logo is shown in silver at the top, beneath this the customer is informed that this is Pearl Lip Balm with a hint of shimmer and colour. Apart from a big lip print across the card there is no other information on the front of the packaging.

The back of the card gives the ingredients for those who wish to read them and states that the balm will help nourish and protect dry and cracked lips and also add a little shimmer to your lips.

The lip balm is sold in a pink twist up tube just like regular lipstick, and the balm is also a pale pink colour with a slight pearly effect, I personally prefer this type of lip balm, its easier to use if you are out and about and you don't have to poke your finger into the pot to get the balm out, this always results in having to scrape it from under my finger nails. The balm is a pale pearly pink colour which is designed to add a shimmer to your lips.

As far as lip balm goes this is good, its easy to apply and relieves sore chapped lips quickly without drying them out, its not as sticky as some lip balms I've tried and feels comfortable when I've got it on. Its the added colour I have a problem with. A pink shimmer sounds nice but once applied it looks awful, it seems to drain any colour I have making me look drab and ill, in fact I had this on one night and my husband mark actually woke me up to see if I was ok it made me look that bad!

This colour issue may be just me others may like the hint of colour but if I buy the Superdrug Lip Balm again I will definitely choose the plain one, I hated the colour and after all it doesn't make the lip balm work any better.

Superdrug are currently selling this for 99p.

        Advantages

        Disadvantages

Too silvery looking for me, but works O.K as short lived balm

I keep a lip balm in my handbag most of the time, but of course I find that I have left it at home on the days that I really need it! That is the reason I made an unplanned purchase of Superdrug's pearl lip balm. I paid £1.99 but it is currently on offer for 99p which is what sparked me to write this review. The price is for a 4.8g tube.

According to the packet, the balm is said to be specially formulated to protect lips from dehydration, leave them feling soft and smooth. It is supposed to provide a "soft subtle shimmer" and a hint of colour. I like balms that give some colour to my lips for the days I don't want to wear lipstick. I feel a bit naked with a nude lip colour! I wasn't especially looking for a shimmery look, but as the packet said it would be subtle, I wasn't put off. I thought it would look like lip gloss perhaps. How wrong I was!

The balm is the of the type that comes in a twist up tube. I prefer these slightly to those that I have to apply with my fingers as they don't leave you with messy hands, and I think they are more pratical to use for topping up on the go. Like most balms of a similar type, the stick is quite wide headed. This means it is quick to apply but also that it is easy to get some on your surrounding skin if you are in a rush as the tip isn't contoured. This is easily corrected usually but with this balm, the effect on the skin is more obvious due to the sheen. So I need to be careful to use it with a steady hand. Apart from that the tube is much the same as any other. The twist up bottom works smoothly and the lid fits tight so there is no danger of the balm itself getting messy in your bag.

The balm has a pearlised appearance, as you expect from the name, and in the tube really does look only slightly shimmery. It is a pale pink and I thought it would give a nice amd still quite natural look. It feels smooth and soft as I glide it along my lips, and I was pleased that it didn't have a greasy feel at all. I can put my lips together without them feeling as they were going to stick that way! Unfortunately, when I looked in the mirror I was less pleased. The pearlised finish is too silvery looking for me. It makes my lips look whitish in certain lights, and from a distance I just look washed out. The pink tone is obvious close up, but it is too pale to suit my ivory skin - as it makes me look anaemic. The shimmery finish is far from natural. I expected it to be there because that is the point of the balm, but it doesn't feel like it fits the description of being a subtle look either. As I don't like to waste something that I have bought, I have been using this up at the allotment and when working outside, hoping that it would protect my lips from dehydration as promised. I liked the fact I couldn't feel it lying heavily on my lips during the day, and the fact it doesn't have an obvious taste means I am not tempted to lick it off. My lips did feel softer and smoother as soon as I applied the balm. That feeling lasts a short time before I feel that I need to re-apply it again - around an hour. It isn't therefore the longest lasting product I have used. If I drink or eat, it disappears immediately. Used frequently, it did prevent any further drying out of my lips. While it is meant to mainly prevent dehydration, I do think it helped my lips feel better if they were already a little dry.

I have used more than one pearl lip balm before, and I liked the finish of those. Nivea's Pearl and Shine springs to mind. The Superdrug version is cheaper but I just don't like the look of it once it is on. The finish aside, I think it works well as an actual lip balm, albeit one you have to apply often. This means I will be willing to try other lip balms by Superdrug, even if I won't buy this particular one again. If you really like a silvery pink lip colour and don't mind a not very subtle shimmer, I would say try this balm out. If that doesn't appeal, don't be fooled by the "subtle"and "hint" wording on the packaging. It isn't to me, so I have rated it down for not living up to all of it's promises.
