I received this lip butter as part of a gift set along with a few other Chocomania goodies from The Body Shop.
I have used The Body Shop’s lip butters in the past.
~ Price ~
The lip butter costs £4.00 and is only available from The Body Shop.
~ Packaging ~
They come in tiny pots that look just like the pots their body butters come in, but a fraction of the size. They are really cute.
~ In Use ~
The lid screws off like it does on the larger body butter tubs revealing the lip balm.
The lip balm is a beige colour and it is solid. I think it is a little bit too solid and I feel as though I have to swirl my finger around repeatedly to get enough on my finger to transfer onto my lips or I have to push into the solid balm, which isn’t something you have to do with other solid balms such as Vaseline’s.
It looks clear on my lips and gives them a sheen. It looks nice and my lips look moisturised, but it doesn’t feel as moisturising or soothing as other lip balms I have used. I particularly like the EOS lip balms and Nivea’s pearly shine lip balm for moisturising and healing chapped lips, but I feel this Chocomania lip balm isn’t as moisturising. It feels a little bit greasy on my lips, but also a bit gritty and it doesn’t feel like it soothes my lips when they are chapped or sore. I find that it also feels quite thin on my lips even when I apply it thickly.
Sometimes I find greasy lip balms can be good to put a protective barrier on your lips while soothing them and taking away the discomfort of chapped lips, but lip butter has a different sort of greasiness. It still feels quite dry on your lips and the grittiness does not help this.
It has a lovely scent of chocolate, which isn’t too strong.
It is an ideal lip butter to use if you are just wanting to add a little something to your lips or apply it under or over a lipstick, but I don’t feel it is very protective and it doesn’t feel very moisturising. It doesn’t soothe chapped or sore lips the way other lip balms and butters do.
I don’t think it is the most hygienic idea for a lip product as you have to dip your finger in so any bacteria on your finger could get into your lip butter and I find these lip butters take a long time to get through.
I wouldn’t particularly recommend this lip butter. I prefer more practical balms and butters.
WHAT IS IT?
This is lip butter that is made by the Body Shop. It is called Chocomania and has got the fragrance and taste of chocolate.
HOW DO YOU USE IT?
You apply the lip butter to your lips using your finger. You can use it as much as you need to but it is very moisturising and I do not have to use it more than 2 or 3 times in a day even though my lips are very dry sometimes.
WHAT I THINK
I like lip butter from the Body Shop but I do not like the taste or smell of this one very much because I think it is like fake chocolate and I do not think it is very pleasing. I was gifted some produce from the Chocomania range last Christmas but I have only started to use it recent because I forgot about it.
The lip butter is very moisturising and it feels like luxury to apply because it is so rich. It does not sink into my lips very fast but I do not care about that because it makes my lips feel soft and slippery when I am wearing it and that is a pleasing feeling that makes it feel like it is even more moisturising.
My lips have been kept very soft while I have been using this lip butter and it is a pity that the flavour and fragrance is not nicer because if it was more like real chocolate then I would buy it again but I will not buy this one even though it is not so bad so I will use up the whole pot and not throw it away.
This Chocomania lip butter costs £4 and I think that is value because it lasts for a very long time.

Chocomania Range/The Product

The product I am reviewing is the Chocomania Lip Butter which is from The Body Shop. This lip butter is part of the Chocomania range which is a range I have heard lots about but have never tried before. All the products in the Chocomania range contain real community fair trade cocoa butter and smells delicious. The Chocomania Body Butter is a best seller, but you can also get a hit of chocolate from other products in the range which includes Shower Cream, Body Butter, Body Lotion, Soap, Beautifying Oil, Mini Soaps & Body Scrub. The lip butter is a buttery balm that claims to melt onto the lips to give them instant hydration. The lip butter has a delicious chocolate flavour as well. The product claims to leaves your lips feeling softer and smoother. The product comes in a small plastic pot which is round and is a dark brown colour. On the top of the lid it states what the product is and you can tell this is part of the Chocomania range from the picture of chocolate on the lid. On the bottom of the pot is a label which you can peel back to reveal a list of ingredients. The lip butter should have clear plastic packaging on it, which is an indicator that the product is new and hasn't been used before. I unscrewed the lid to look at the butter and to also smell it. The lip butter was beige in colour and looked smooth on top. The lip butter had a delicious, light smell of chocolate which I found pleasant as it didn't smell too sweet or sickly.
I have used a Cocoa Butter Lip Stick from The Body Shop before and was impressed at how it left my lips feeling. I needed a new product due to my previous one running out so I decided to purchase this one. I have heard mixed feelings about the product in the Chocomania range and although I wanted to try some of the products in the range I thought I would try something small first and if I liked it then I may consider purchasing more items from the range. I normally always go for lip products in a stick format as I think they are more hygienic to apply but as this particular one doesn't come in a stick format then the small round pot of the lip butter would do just fine.

I purchased this from my local Body Shop for £4.00 which is for 10ml of the Lip Butter. You can also purchase this online from The Body Shop website as well.

My lips often dry out during the night and sometimes they crack when I'm sleeping so I always apply a good lip product before going to bed, which was previously the Cocoa Butter Lip Care Stick from The Body Shop. I had high hopes of this product and was hoping it was going to work as well as my previous product. Ensuring my finger was clean I rubbed it across the top of the lip butter and then applied this to my lips. I was going to need a lot more than I had applied so I rubbed my finger in a circular motion on the top of the butter to get more. I then applied this again to my lips. The lip butter is very easy to apply and feels soft when applying it to my lips. The butter didn't feel too greasy and once I had finished applying the product to my lips I could smell a light chocolate scent from the lip butter which was now on my lips. My lips instantly felt moisturised. I personally didn't think there was much taste to the lip butter, despite it stating that it's meant to have a chocolate taste. I went to bed and hoped that when I woke in the morning, that my lips would feel smooth and soft.
I woke up the following morning and was pleased that my lips hadn't split during the night and they didn't feel dry. My lips were moisturised and feel smooth and soft. Although I was impressed with this, I don't think it left my lips feeling as soft and smooth as my previous product. I only occasionally wear lip products during the day; how-ever I wanted to see how well the product lasted through the day so I decided to apply it one morning when I was away. I had been on the beach a few times and due to the wind my lips were feeling little sore, although they didn't look it. I applied the product as before, ensuring my finger tips were clean. The lip butter gave instantly gave my lips the moisturisation they needed to stop them from feeling sore. I found that the product lasted a good amount of time but this of course varies depending on how often you eat/drink after applying the product. I tend to apply the product after a drink or food so I know it will last slightly longer than it would if I was eating/drinking after applying the product. My lips again, felt moisturised but I'm still not convinced it moisturised as much as my previous product.

I did have high hopes of this product after trying the Cocoa Butter Lip Care Stick in this range. The pot that the Lip Butter comes in is really handy to put into a pocket or small bag which means its perfect for on the go. The lip balm was easy to apply and didn't feel too greasy when applying it. I found that it gave instant moisturisation to my lips and left them feeling smooth and soft. I like the light scent of the lip butter as it's not too strong, how-ever I didn't think that the product tasted much like chocolate as claimed. The lip butter also makes my lips look moisturised and gives them a slight sheen to them which I liked. Although this product does a great job at keeping my lips soft and smooth, I don't think it does as good job as my previous lip care product, which I found was extremely moisturising. I actually also prefer the smell of the Cocoa Butter Stick to this one. This is a good product that isn't too greasy and it does leave lips feeling soft and smooth, so I would recommend it. How-ever if you want something that gives really, really good moisturisation then I would recommend the Cocoa Butter Stick. Once I have finished using this product I don't think I would purchase it again as it was good, but I think there are better Lip Care Products out there.

My sister has always been one for putting together cute hamper gifts for Christmas/birthdays therefore I'm always receiving lots of wonderful pampering gifts. This Christmas I found myself opening a small box filled with confetti paper and a few of the chocomania range pampering products from the body shop. I love the body shop and always find myself smelling all the beautiful products if I go into the store therefore I was chuffed to receive this little pampering package.
One of the gifts within this little pampering package was the Chocomania lip butter and this is what I am going to focus on in this review. The product can be bought either in store or online at www.thebodyshop.co.uk and costs £4 per pot. The lip butter does not only come in the chocolate chocomania flavour but also in sweet lemon, pink grapefruit, mango, shea and coconut therefore the body shop gives a great range of lip butters. The chocomania lip butter is part of a range of other chocomania products such as body butter, soap, body scrub and many more and is most ideal for those chocolate lovers out there.
The product comes in a very small compact pot and is ideal for placing in your pocket, your handbag or even taking it out on a night out in a small clutch bag if you did wish to do so. The pot is a rich dark brown colour with a picture of gorgeous chocolate chunks on the lid with the body shop logo placed over the top of them and in size the product is 10 ml/0.3 OZ/ 8.5g. The product has a screw off lid which I believe is easy to use and stops any inconveniences such as the lid falling off in your bag and ruining your lip butter, which is a nightmare therefore, the lid being one that must be screwed on and off is handy. As soon as you screw off the lid a beautiful rich but sweet chocolate scent meets your nostrils and almost smells edible. The lip butter is a very light brown creamy colour which obviously is good as when applied it does not stain your lips in any way. The product unfortunately does not have information on the pot about the ingredients within the lip butter which I feel is potentially a disadvantage to those who wish to know this for specific reasons as it it only states the pot is recyclable and unfit for consumption which is fairly obvious in my eyes even though it does smell gorgeous.
When applying the product the easiest and most likely way to use this lip butter is by using your fingers, this may not be the most hygienic way but is quick easy and an adaptable way for applying the lip butter on the go. The product is extremely easy to apply just simply dip your finger into the pot and then wipe your finger and the butter onto your lips, be careful not to apply too much as this lip butter is very thick and creamy therefore a small amount goes a long way and you won't need too much to cover your lips. I would recommend not using too much also as then the smell may become sickly as I have felt in the past. The lip butter once applied seems to quickly dissolve into your lips and leaves them feeling soft and also smelling beautiful like chocolate though I would advice not to lick your lips as the product certainly does not taste as good as it smells. I am personally one for biting my lips especially during exams when I am stressed therefore find my lips can sometimes be in quite bad chapped condition but this product really does help to hydrate and also repair my lips making them feel soft again and is one of the best lip products I have ever used. It does not leave your lips feeling sticky unlike other products and really does leave them feeling soft and smooth, the way they should be! Also I have had my pot of this lip butter since December 2012 now which isn't long but I daily use the product and the lip butter has barely gone down and still is as smooth and creamy as when I first opened it therefore this showing the product will last a very long time and is of great quality.
I certainly would recommend this product to anyone with dry lips looking to find a product which actually works, the product is certainly worth the price of £4 which you would be paying for it and will certainly last a long time. The product can be taken anywhere due to the small compact size of it and also smells great. I would certainly recommend this product to any chocoholics and even to those that just like chocolate a little bit, although if chocolate really isn't your thing I would not recommend this flavour of the product but would still recommend you get a lip butter from the body shop yet a different flavour as I guess they have the same effect.
I hope my review has helped.
Once again I'll just start off by saying that I have a HUGE chocolate addiction; left to my own devices I'd eat chocolate for breakfast, lunch and dinner, and for various snacks in between as well! We go on holiday to the US next month, and I've been trying to eat a little bit healthier in the run up to our holiday, and to cut down on the amount of chocolate that I currently scoff!
I told my mum not to buy me an Easter Egg this year, to choose something non-edible for me instead. She ended up buying me a gift set from The Body Shop, full of their Chocomania products. The Body Shop's Chocomania collection is basically a range of chocolate scented bath and body goodies. The Chocomania gift set that I received contains travel sizes of the lip butter, the body butter, the shower cream and the body scrub. And they are all contained in a reusable, chocolate brown coloured, metal, heart shaped tin.
So next up is the Chocomania lip butter. The little tub of lip butter in my gift box is actually the full sized version, at 10ml. A quick look on The Body Shop website tells me this retails for £4.
The Chocomania lip butter is like a miniature scaled down version of the Chocomania body butter in all respects; from the miniature chocolate coloured tub with the screw off lid, to the picture of huge chunks of delicious chocolate on the lid, and finally the gorgeous milk chocolate coloured lip butter inside the little tub.
The Chocomania lip butter smells absolutely divine, as soon as I open the tub I can smell the intense and rich chocolate fragrance. It is quite an artificial chocolate fragrance, and it is quite a sweet chocolate fragrance, however that didn't put me off as it is so obviously chocolate scented! I find that after I've slicked this over my lips that the sweet chocolate fragrance will linger on my lips for quite some time.
I'm not normally a fan of lip balms and lip butters where you have to apply the product with your finger, as I do think that they're not very hygienic. Having said that though the lip butter is easy to apply, I just gently wipe my finger across the top surface of the chocolate butter and then slick my finger across my lips. I do only need a very very small amount of this lip butter as it's a very thick and rich and creamy lip butter, and using more than just a very small amount just leaves my lips with a greasy buttery coating. It's very quickly and easily absorbed into my lips if I've only used a very small amount, it basically just seems to melt into my lips, and it leaves my lips wonderfully soft and smooth and fragranced with the sweet chocolatey scent. My lips feel really supple and hydrated all day whenever I use this lip butter.
With all of the Chocomania 'body' products in my gift set I've found that the divine, sweet and chocolatey fragrance doesn't stay divine for too long, especially if you layer the products like I've been doing. The sweet chocolate fragrance soon becomes quite sickly, in fact it seems to just get sweeter and sicklyer as the day wears on, and depending what perfume I'm wearing it can even overpower that too. However with the Chocomania lip butter I find that the lingering chocolate scent is actually quite subtle, and so doesn't become sickly at all.
The lip butter is probably the only one out of the four Chocomania products in my tin that I'd repurchase for myself, due to the lingering fragrance in the lip butter not becoming so sweet and sickly as the day wears on.
I am obsessed with lip balms and have to have loads all over the house and in all my bags and even in my car and desk at work just in case I ever run out because I hate the feeling of having dry lips.
The Body Shop lip butters are a little different to the balms that I normally buy because they aren't as greasy and don't give me the shiny and plump look that I like but they are really good at moisturising under the surface and smoothing my lips making them less dry.
They are really good to use when my lips are cracked and sore and they also make a lovely base for lip stick and even gloss because they plump my lips and make them smooth so that lip stick and gloss go on evenly and last longer when they are on.
The Chocomania Lip Butter comes in a small tub that looks like the larger body butter. The consistency of the lip butter is also similar to the body butter and is sort of semi solid. It is made with cocoa butter and is chocolate flavoured.
The smell is absolutely gorgeous and it really smells chcoolatey. I love chocolate smelling lip balms so this is a favourite of mine. It is also a lot 'greasier' than some of the other butters so it actually feels a little bit nicer when I apply it to my lips especially if they are feeling dry. With the others the butter melts in to my lips and although they hydrate they don't give that really comfortable long lasting wet feel.
It isn't as greasy as say Vaseline but it is enough to give me relief if my lips feels dry. It works really well at smoothing my lips and taking away any flakiness from them as well as sort of plumping my lips out. When my lips are dry they can look thinner and as this puts moisture back in them it makes them much more fuller feeling.
If you like chocolate then you will absolutely love this one and even if you don't love chocolate as much as me you will still appreciate the smoothing and moisturising effect that this has on your lips.
I love lip butters and balms, and I would happily spend a fortune on them! Recently I went on a bit of a spree in the body shop and purchased a few luxury items. I don't usually go for things from the body shop because it's quite expensive and as I've found not all of their items are high quality, but I absolutely love their body butters and thought that I couldn't go wrong with a lip butter! I love chocolate flavoured/scented items and snapped up the Chocomania lip butter with barely a thought, and I was so excited to use it!
£4.00 for 10ml.
The Body Shop says:
"This buttery balm melts onto the lips for instant hydration. It contains real cocoa butter and has a delicious chocolate flavour.
Wear it, love it, but don't eat it.
Leaves lips feeling softer and smoother
I really like the packaging, it's a lovely little compact pot that can be carried about anywhere, but again with many products I hate the fact that it's a dip pot which means I have to stick my finger in every time to get some product out, so I would advise users to ensure you have nice clean hands to prevent the transference of bacteria. The smell is absolutely delicious, when I first opened the pot I thought about getting a tiny spoon and eating it! The scent is definitely the best part of the whole product, it smells like a very luxurious and indulgent chocolate that is literally good enough to eat! The taste is very subtle and not too overpowering, although the smell is definitely better than the taste. The consistency of the lip butter is lovely and spreads evenly and easily onto my lips with minimum effort, and what I like about the product is that all it takes to melt is a gentle heat from your finger, as a lot of lip butters I've tried you have to really get in there to get some product out especially if it's cold outside! One thing that nearly put me off the product is the price. It's £4 for a very small 10ml pot (a further £2.99 for delivery if buying online) which is very expensive and I was a little weary of spending nearly £7 on a lip butter that I've never tried before!
I have to say that this lip butter isn't my favourite. Applying it is easy enough but feels really greasy and gritty (if that makes sense?) on my lips and isn't the easiest to wear. I look for a lip butter/balm that I can just apply and get on with my day but when I'm wearing this I'm worried that it's sliding all round my mouth and just sitting on my skin without actually doing anything. I haven't noticed a difference in the condition of my lips since using this product and I feel quite disappointed considering how much I spent on it! My lips are quite prone to being chapped, dry and sore so maybe the perfume in the product has affected the condition of my lips, so I don't think I would recommend this product to anyone with the same problem as mine! It's a lovely smelling product and I've heard a lot of good things about lip butters from the body shop, but unfortunately the product just isn't for me!
