Advantages: Keeps my lips lovely and moisturised. Doesn't need applying too much unless you eat/drink lots.
Disadvantages: Not the cheapest but worth it in my opinion. Doesn't have lasting effects - needs regular use.
My lips are almost always on the dry side and if I don't use a good lip balm religiously, they are very prone to flaking and cracking. Not a good look! Because of this, I'm never without lip products and have an ever-growing stash thanks to my uncanny ability to lose them. This is one that I've been using for quite a while now. I use the hemp hand cream and have had good experiences with that so I was keen to try out the hemp lip protector too. It's marketed at very dry skin so I had high hopes that it would work wonders on my poor lips.
As you can see from the product image above, it's not at all dissimilar to most lip balms. It comes in a small tube, which you just twist at the bottom to encourage the balm up. I'm persisting in calling it a balm because it's not much different from lip balm. It has a slightly waxy consistency, which made me a bit concerned that it would just sit on my lips. This has been the case with other lip balms of similar consistency but thankfully, this one actually sinks into my lips and makes them look a lot more moisturised straight away. The colour is every so slightly off yellow but there's no colour once it's your lips - it just goes on as clear no matter how enthusiastic I am with my application! It gives my lips a slight sheen but nothing overly obvious. It just makes them look better really. There is a faint smell of hemp as you apply it but this isn't particularly obvious, quickly fades and I can't say that I've noticed it again after application so don't worry - you won't be smelling of hemp all day!
While it's on, my lips definitely feel more moisturised. I can feel that it's on but this isn't an uncomfortable feeling and it may just be because I'm always heavy handed in applying these kind of things! I drink quite a lot during the day so I'm frequently needing to reapply it but because it sinks into the lips, I've found that if I've not eating or drinking that much, I don't need to apply it too often. I can definitely feel the difference if I'm not wearing it as my lips will quickly become dry and irritated so it's a product that I feel the need to keep using to maintain the effects.
It costs around £4 I believe. This is more than I'd normally be willing to pay for a lip product so I'm sure that I didn't pay this for mine. I think it was on some kind of offer and that I paid around £2 but as it's now become a must-have item for me, I would actually be happy to pay the full price as it keeps my lips in good condition and really does the job.
Summary: A godsend for lips that are prone to cracking and lots of dryness.
