The Body Shop Lip Balms
Advantages: Smells great, has a nice taste to it, moisturises well, and lasts ages .
Disadvantages: None really, well apart from the fact you will want them all !
About a month ago I developed a bad patch of dry skin on my lower lip, right on the edge. It was getting rather sore which wasn't that nice, so I started to put on Vaseline, which was my usual lip saver. I was putting a thick layer on before going to bed each night and although it was making my lips feel much softer and smoother this stubborn patch wasn't improving at all.
So I decided the only real way to deal with it was to use something through the day as well as at night to try and get rid of it. The reason I was using the Vaseline at night only was because I don't like it, the smell and feel of it I find repulsive but I put up with it at night to try and solve the problem.
I decided to try lip balm, as I much prefer it to lip salve. I turned to the usual suspect, The Body Shop. They have quite a few lip balms to choose from but I opted for their Born Lippy range and went for the mango and peach flavour. I don't know why exactly I just liked the sound of it to be honest. They also do good old mint, strawberry and raspberry as well as the less expected passionberry, watermelon and satsuma flavours. I have included pictures of them all so that should you decide to go and treat yourself to one you will be able to find it more quickly and get out of there without being tempted by all the other lovelies that are bound to catch your eye.
It comes in rather plain packaging, a small see through tub with a screw on lid. The lid has a round sticker on it, which is pink orange and yellow. It has the Body Shop logo on and says
MANGO AND PEACH LIP BALM
The base has a small white label which has on it the bar code, recyclable symbol, use within 12 months of opening symbol and the details of which plastic it is made from, this can be peeled back to reveal the ingredients list and company details.
You can see the colour of the balm itself through the pot, it is bright orange. The colour doesn't come out on your lips so no need to panic!
This contains lanolin so isn't a product that is suitable for vegans. Lanolin and beeswax moisturise with peach and mango extract give the fruity fragrance in a natural way. The beeswax is actually organic and is community traded which is The Body Shops form of fair trade.
The Body Shops website says "Community Trade Information Beeswax - Zambia based, North Western Bee Products are the suppliers, for whom we have been trading with since 1991. The Zambian Honey we use in our products comes from the remote tropical forests of north west Zambia, where it's farmed using traditional methods that preserve the forest and beekeepers' way of life."
The pot opens very easily and the balm smells divine! I want to scoop it out and eat it, yes it really does smell that good! It is rather a tropical smell and certainly an awful lot nicer than having a mint or strawberry balm to use.
All you do is run your finger over the surface of the balm and smooth it onto your lips. This is so easy, the balm is slightly tacky and seems to melt as soon as your skin touches it.
On my lips there is no sign of a scary orange colour just a shine that rivals that of clear lip-gloss. I even wear it when I am made up instead of any lipstick or gloss. On my lips it is not sticky at all, unlike lip glosses.
It doesn't stay on your lips all that long but as the pot is so small it is very easy to slip it in your pocket or handbag so that you can apply it as often as you want to keep them moisturised all day.
While on my lips I can almost constantly smell it, which is something I love! It does have a taste to it too, a sweet one, not much more than that maybe a hint of peach. It certainly isn't enough to ruin the taste of what you may eat or drink but is noticeable.
I have noticed very good results from using this balm, my lips feel much softer and smoother and I can even see the difference and I don't just mean on the dry patch that I had developed either. I can honestly say I will never turn to Vaseline again! I thought there was nothing better for you lips but now I know different.
At £4 I think this pot was a steal, I am that pleased with it that I have bought another pot already, this time in the watermelon flavour. I haven't opened it yet but I can see me having one in my handbag and one by the side of my bed so that I am always able to use it.
Before I used nothing and now I am addicted!
I have to give this a full five stars as this really is brilliant and I couldn't be more pleased with it!
