Advantages: Cheap, fruity flavour, lovely smell, variety, practical, soften lips, non greasy or sticky

Disadvantages: Addictive!

Anyone of a certain age (i.e. 30-40) will probably remember a great deal of fuss about these little lip balms in the early 90's. If you didn't have a least one of these little pots - 'hello? Are you living in the 80's?' Back then, they were little glass pots, and black lids rather than clear/white. They originally came in cherry, strawberry, and, god rest it's soul - Kiwi. Bring back the Kiwi lip balm, Body Shop!!!! These little pots started off my 20-year obession with all things Body Shop.

Anyhoo, I'm not 13 anymore, I'm 33, and 20 years later I am STILL using Body Shop lip balms. In fact I've not been without one of these cute little pots since the day I managed to convince my mum back in 1991 that 'I NEED one mum, no I CAN'T take a pot of vaseline to school, EVERBODY in the ENTIRE school has a Body Shop lip balm.' And, what started out as a teenage fad, is now an everyday essential. And here's why.

*The Range*

The 'Born Lippy' Lip Balms (not to be confused with the Lip Butters!) are only available at Body Shop stores, Body Shop Website and Body Shop parties. They come in little round (now plastic) pots, 10ml each, with a screw top lid. The pot is clear so you can see the bright, luscious colour of the balm. Currently, there are 6 flavours available on the website - Satsuma, Raspberry, Strawberry, Passionberry, Watermelon, Pink Guava, and, the only I haven't tried yet - Mango and Peach. On the lid of each pot is a brightly coloured sticker with a picture of the fruit(s).

*The Price*

They cost £2.00 per pot (they haven't increased in price in 20 years incidently - actually I'm sure they used to be £2.50? correct me if I'm wrong). As they last ages, I think it's pretty good price, in comparison to the Body shop lip butters, which cost £4, and in my opinion, having nothing on the lip balms.

*About the Product*

It's brightly coloured, slightly translucent, balm, made from Community Fair Trade Beeswax and natural fruit extract. You apply it by taking a small amount on your fingertips and rubbing over your lips. They smell DIVINE. Fruity, not chemical smelling. And best of all they taste of what they are supposed to taste like. I hate lip balms that smell of say, strawberries, but taste like Nivea hand cream - Not good! Well these don't taste like handcream, they taste of fruit. There not sticky or too greasy either, (another problem I found with the lip butters) although I would recommend waiting until after you eat or drink to apply. They make your lips feel soft and smooth, and work an absolute treat on chapped or dry lips. They also give your lips a lovely, natural looking glossy shine, with a very subtle, natural, barely there tint.
I'm not a big fan of heavy lip-glosses, especially during the day, but these feel light and natural on your lips all day long. You only need a tiny amount at a time, and a pot lasts ages, even when you apply it up to 10 times a day, it'll last a couple of months. The little pots are a perfect size for your handbag, makeup bag, pocket, kid's schoolbag, in the car, in your drawer at work, I often have several pots dotted about the place so I'm never without it!!

*The Verdict*

Well, if you haven't already guessed, I LOVE these. I love the cute, slightly retro looking little pots. I love the colours. I love the flavours. I really can't fault them in the slightest. They are cheap, effective, smell great, taste great, and look great. Soft, glossy, fruity tasting, luscious smelling lips all day long. For £2. What more could you ask for in a lip balm? Five stars!!!! Oh, is anyone with me to get a campaign going to bring back the Kiwi flavour?

Summary: Best Lip Balm EVER!!!
