The Body Shop Pink Grapefruit Lip Butter
Advantages: Works well, lovely taste, excellent quality
Disadvantages: A bit pricey but you get what you pay for
As I live on the Great Orme in Llandudno more often than not it is windy - anything from a light breeze to a howling gale! I work at our local theatre and conference centre and our office is always very warm. Given these two pieces of information you will see why I need to use a lip saver of some description. I really do hate the feeling of my lips being dry; I feel very uncomfortable and get very irritable!
I have numerous lip savers and lip butters about the place from little pots to lipstick type ones. They are all over the place in my bags, my bedroom drawer, my office drawer etc.
One of my favourites is The Body Shop Lip Butter in Pink Grapefruit. I have always loved to eat pink grapefruits so it makes sense that I would like the lip butter in that flavour. The lip butters are currently £4 each for a pot containing 10ml of butter. If you have a Love Your Body Card, as I do, you will get 10% off every purchase so it will cost you just £3.60.
In the shop the Lip Butters themselves look just like miniature versions of the Body Shop Body Butters in the same 'flavour'. What I mean by that is that the lip butters are in the same style pots, in the same colour with the same design on them - just smaller. The little pots of lip butter are just 10ml compared to the 50ml or 200ml of the body butters.
There is a wide variety of flavours - including papaya, Brazil nut, Shea, coconut, almond, passion fruit and mango. As with the body butters, the colours of the lip butter pots correspond to the flavours inside - for example mango is gold, pink grapefruit is pink etc. Each pot has a sticker on the top telling you which variety it is.
There are two main ingredients of the Pink Grapefruit Lip Butter and these are vitamin E which will protect and nourish the lips and Shea Butter which is a natural moisturiser that helps to condition the lips by sealing in the moisture. The other ingredient is (fairly obviously) pink grapefruit seed oil which is 'rich in essential fatty acids that help restore skin smoothness and suppleness while rebuilding the skins barriers function'.
As a general bit of information the Body Shop operates a Community Trade policy which, according to their website, means 'A fair price for a fantastic ingredient or product, from a disadvantaged or small scale supplier'.
For example the Shea Butter comes from Tungteiya, which represents about 400 women in Northern Ghana where many families rely on subsistence farming.
The lip butter itself is just slightly softer and oilier than the body butter and to use it I just get a small amount on the end of my finger and rub it onto my lips. I find that it is absorbed very easily and leaves no greasy residue on my lips. Most importantly it makes my lips feel really moisturised and soft.
The only real problem with this lip butter is the taste - it is just too nice! I keep licking my lips and so I have to reapply it more often than I really ought to!
I find that this one is nice to use at night as it really seems to work really well whilst I sleep and of course if I am asleep I don't lick it all off!
I have tried quite a few of the Body Shop Lip Butters and haven't yet found one that I don't like although I would have to say that Pink Grapefruit is my favourite!
Summary: A great lip butter
