The Body Shop Sweet Lemon Lip Butter
Advantages: Keeps lips feeling soft, lovely lemon flavour and scent.
Disadvantages: The butter can get under your finger nails when nearing the bottom of the tub.
My experiences with lip balms have been a mixture of both good and bad and I have one or two which I prefer to use. I had however, never used a lip 'butter' until this Sweet Lemon Lip Butter was given to me as part of a Christmas gift from The Body Shop.
I was intrigued and looked forward to trying it out. I have often used body butters on my skin, with pleasing results and I always love the smell coming from my daughter's room when she is applying body butters from The Body Shop which she loves and so I hoped this would be a great quality product too.
The attractive packaging and fragrances of body butters from The Body Shop always appeal to me and as a lover of citrus fragrance, Sweet Lemon was an ideal choice for me.
These Body Shop lip butters go hand in hand with their Body Butter range and look just like tiny versions of their large body butter tubs. These dinky little tubs have the same screw lid as the larger body butter tubs and the size makes them ideal to pop in your handbag.
As well as Sweet Lemon, this lip butter is also available in Mango, Coconut, Pink Grapefruit, Shea and even Chocomania flavours. This Sweet Lemon lip butter is described as a buttery balm which will melt onto the lips for instant hydration. It contains real lemon seed oil and uses Community Fair Trade Shea Butter and Beeswax to help make lips lovely and soft.
The smell of this Sweet Lemon lip butter is really lovely and just as I expected. It has a sweet lemon aroma as you unscrew the lid, rather than a tangy lemon aroma and the butter is a pale lemon colour. My daughter thinks it reminds her of lemon meringue pie and I can see why.
Applying the lip butter is very easy. After unscrewing the lid, use a finger tip to scoop a little up and run your finger tip along your lips.
Although I liked the tub at first, I did find that its narrow and deep design is a little awkward, as when nearing the bottom of the tub, it is all too easy to get this butter stuck under your finger nail when you are trying to use the last of the butter.
Its texture is nice and smooth and I find a little goes a long way and so only use a tiny amount at a time when applying to my lips. It blends easily and has a lovely soft buttery feel on my lips, without making them feel clogged with product. It smells and tastes good enough to eat and I enjoy using it.
If you can resist the urge to lick your lips or rub them together after applying this then it may last longer, however, I find it very difficult to refrain from doing this! Indeed it is so nice I cannot help myself and I find myself applying this lip butter regularly throughout the day in order to keep my lips feeling soft and protected.
This lip butter protects my lips just as well as my favoured lip balms, however I must admit a lip balm is easier to apply and also you don't get the product on your finger tips or under your finger nails. Having said that, the buttery appeal of this lip butter offers something different from a lip balm and I think of it as a more luxurious experience when I am using it. I enjoy applying it and the feel of it on my lips and so the positives so outweigh the negatives with using this product for me.
The other thing to mention is its £4 price tag. Which for a 10ml pot isn't exactly cheap, but I view this as something of a luxury product and worth paying a little extra for as a treat and I have purchased one for myself after I used the original one I received as a gift.
The Body Shop often has offers available too and if ordering online there are often money off total spend offers, free delivery offers and codes available to reduce the price of your order. You can also recieve cashback via Topcashback.co.uk when oredering online too, which is what I did when making my purchase.
Sweet Lemon Lip Butter is one I am happy to recommend and I may even try another flavour next time if I can be tempted away from this gorgeous sweet lemon!
Summary: May not be as convenient to use as a lip balm, but this butter is a lovely treat for your lips.
