As someone who suffers from really dry and sore lips within a couple of days of not using a lipbalm, I am in constant search of the perfect balm. I have noticed that when using petroleum based balms, e.g. vaseline, or a parrafin based balm that the balm becomes additive- my lips get surface moisture, but within an hour or so, the effect has gone and my lips are drier than before, requiring me to use more of the product.
This lipbalm, however, is different, because it contains no parrafin or petroleum and uses only natural products such as beeswax, coconut oil, olive oil and pumpkin seed extract so the moisture reaches not only the surface layers of the skin but also nourishes and heals deep down. The effect on my lips is that it feels the balm heals and not just coats, meaning that if I forget to use it for a few days, I can manage without the usual cracked skin and soreness.
The product is 95% organic and 100% natural, so you know you are not ingesting anything nasty, and comes in a range of 5 flavours. Of these, my favourite is mint, as the natural peppermint oil really pops out and it feels like it freshens my mouth aswell. I have tried the melon, carrot and citrus and they were all nice, with subtle fragrances, the carrot is not as weird as it sounds, it doesn't really taste or smell of anything.
The lipbalm comes in a 4.25g tube with a colourful lid, and it retails at around two pounds fifty, a bargain for something full of natural oils that works so well.
I would really recommend this little miracle tube, it keeps my lips moist and looking fuller without being addictive. The only thing to remember is it doesn't contain any UV protection, so in the summer you may want to apply some suncream aswell.
My lips often become dry and chapped, whether it is the summer or the winter, and I always need a lip balm to help sort them out. I have plenty of them but they are always being misplaced or lost, so i frequently have to buy a new one. I have bought things from the Say Yes To Carrots range before and have been quite happy with them so when I saw the C Me Smile Lip Butter, I snapped it up.
What does the product do?
The lip butter promises to keep the lips feeling soft, smooth and looking shiny. It claims that it will also leave your lips in a better condition by hydrating and revitalising them. The butter contain natural ingredients which include Coconut Oil, Sunflower Seed Oil, Shea Butter and Olive Oil, and it helps to keep the lips looking younger with Vitamin E.
The product comes in five different types which include Melon, Berry, Citrus, Carrot and Mint. Each different type has a different coloured lid to allow you to differentiate between them. I chose to buy the Berry one.
Packaging and Price
The product comes in a normal chapstick container which is mainly white apart from some colourful writing. The Berry one which I chose has a red lid. You twist the bottom of the stick in order to move the balm up the tube. The product costs around £3 and it can be bought from a range of online websites.
Application and Performance
The product looks like a cloudy coloured balm that is the same as most other balms that I have owned. The product does have a lovely fruity smell which does appear to be a little bit artificial, however as the ingredients seems to be all natural then I assume that it must be real. The product has no taste which is not a bad thing in my opinion as when they taste nice, I tend to lick the product back off. The product is easy to apply to the lips and as it comes in a stick form, it means that you don't get sticky fingers when applying it.
The product has a lovely smooth consistency so the stick glides across the lips without pulling or dragging the delicate skin. It feels completely comfortable on the lips and does make my lips feel hydrated straight. It doesn't leave a sticky or greasy feeling behind it on the lips and it hasn't caused me any irritations. The product doesn't change the colour of my lips at all but then I wasn't expecting it too and it leaves behind a lovely but subtle sheen on the lips. The product is quite long lasting and I find that one application lasts for quite a few hours. It seems to heal my lips if they've managed to get dry after repeated use and it does make my lips look healthier and in a better condition.
This is a great lip balm and considering it contains so many natural ingredients, it really it quite cheap for what it is. It hydrates my lips and makes them look healthy and feel healthy. I would try some of the others in the collection, although the carrot one doesn't really appeal to me. I would gladly repurchase the Berry one however, although I don't anticipate having to do this any time soon!
I am always browsing ASOS, a website that sells pretty much everything fashion & beauty related, and came across these lip butters a couple of months ago. I'd never heard of these before, and after a brief bit of research i've come to the conclusion that they've come over recently from America as they're for sale on the 'walgreens' (the American version of ASDA) website.
The name (C me smile say yes to carrots) caught my eye as it's quite a unique and unusual name for a lip balm, and the 'carrot' part intrigued me so I clicked onto the little picture on the ASOS website and after reading the brief product description I purchased three of them. I'm not greedy & didn't purchase three for the sake of it, there are a range of different 'flavours', all of which sound really yummy but I will go into that a bit later in my review.
Price wise, the lip butters retail at £2-£3 each, depending on the flavour that you choose. I think this is a very good price for a lip balm and considering that you get over 4 grams of product in each tube, it's a total bargain in my opinion. The lip balms are marketed as 'lip butters' which I think has a nice ring to it. They're made by an award winning American company called Say Yes To Carrots, who sell an organic range of beauty related items and mainly specialise in moisturisers. The company actually donate a portion of the money raised from their products to their seed fund, which I think is great - their values (planet friendly, organic) remind me a little of Lush, except their products are a lot cheaper than Lush's!!
The lip balms are packed full of lovely stuff and have a nourishing formula. It's rich in vitamin E, which is anti-oxidant rich and protects skin/lips against environmental damage. It also contains coconut oil and olive oil which are incredibly nourishing ingredients. They also moisturise and soften the lips. It's also worth mentioning that the lip balms, and non of the ingredients that they contain have been tested on animals and are made with all natural ingredients, so they are Vegan friendly. They are also paraben, petroleum & phthalate Free. Say Yes To Carrots claim that their lip butters will leave your lips soft, smooth and shining, and trust me, they aren't lying - these lip balms are amazing!
Packaging wise the lip balms come in stick form which I prefer to tinned lip balms as it's more hygienic and easy to use. Each tube is pocket-sized and contains a generous 4.25 grams of product. The tubes are just like a normal lip balm tubes (eg nivea, chapstick etc). The branding is good - very girly and bright, the colour scheme will vary on which flavour you get but with the mint for example it's white and green where as with the melon it is white and yellow. The little plastic lid is also coloured to reflect the flavour. The lip balm itself is an off-white colour and smooth in texture with a flat nib.
The lip balms are available in a range of different 'flavours' - mint, citrus, melon, berry and carrot. I have one mint, one berry and one carrot, and will be getting all of the different 'flavours' in the near future as I love the product! All of them smell amazing and taste pleasant too. They actually smell natural rather than fake and overlly sweet, and the smell is subtle rather than in your face which I like. I have read a few reviews of these lip balms and one said that the smell was artificial, but I totally disagree - in my opinion they all smell natural and fresh.
The formula is lovely, very smooth and moisturising, it really makes a difference to my lips and stops them from chapping. When used on dry lips it makes a noticeable difference and leaves them feeling moisturised, soft and supple. The formula isn't greasy at all and doesn't leave any shiny residue behind on my lips. It absorbs quickly and makes the perfect base for lipstick as a lot of lipsticks are quite drying. Overall I love these lip balms, they smell lovely and do such a good job in keeping my lips nourished, moisturised and soft.
