Why have cotton when you can have velvet?

Advantages: A lovely velvetly smooth drink
Disadvantages: None although very sticky is spilt
This is one of my favourite after dinner drinks. It has a lovely smooth taste and isn't too heavy or sickly. This is because I find brandy based liquors too strong and cream liquors a bit too sickly especially if they are not cold. I enjoy my Ameretto with a coffee and without ice as I prefer the stronger flavour than a watered down one. Some of my friends however prefer it very cold with ice. Despite not likng it with ice I can recommend it poured over vanilla ice cream.
It can be mixed although I prefer it straight. Typical mixers include orange juice, ginger ale and I have even seen someone drink it with milk. I quite like a lollypop cocktail as a special treat which is one part gin, one part Ameretto and one part cream. Shaken with ice and served in a martini glass with a lollypop stirrer. Obviously this is quite potent so don't drink too many. I like to have a bottle in my drinks cabinet to indulge myself after a large dinner too aid digestion. Well that's my excuse and I am sticking to it.
This drink is ideal if you like marzipan and almonds as it has that sweet almond taste to it.It is high in alcohol content and is also quite sticky so take care not to spill any.It has a lovely golden brown colour. If bought in a restaurant or bar you will normally be served one measure. I did order it in Rome once and was amazed at the measure which was almost a whole whisky glass full. So amazed by the generous measure I had to order a second one to see if the first had been a mistake!
Bottle shape is quite distinctive as it is rectangular and the brand name of Disaronno is clearly displayed on the bottle top. It is available from the usual supermarkets and wine merchants so it is not difficult to get hold of. it costs around £12.00 for a 500 ml bottle. As measures tend to quite small, unless in Rome, it should last you quite a long time so a £12 investment represents good value in my opinion.
