Advantages: Good with other things
Disadvantages: Yukky and syrupy on its own, Oh, and can we have a 'maybe' in the recommend to friend thingy?
Although my idea of a decent swally is a good malt and a pint or two of Guinness, I have to rather sheepishly admit to usually having a bottle or two of Peach Schnapps tucked away in a cupboard. Now let me state quite categorically that I don't drink this stuff on its own to get drunk. If I was to do that I would need at least a couple of bottles, it's not the strongest bevvy on the shelf - and this is so sweet that drinking that much would probably make me very ill before it made me drunk. I always keep a bottle or two of this handy for one non-getting-plastered reason and one getting-plastered reason that I will explain as you read on.
The drink itself is a clear liquid of a rather syrupy consistency. The flavour, as you may have gathered from the name, is peachy. The smell too is of a rather overpowering peachiness. Fine if you like sweet syrupy peachy things, but far too sickly sweet in both taste and aroma for my liking. I certainly couldn't even attempt to drink this straight without having to shout on sidneygee's mates Ralph and Huey. The alcohol content is rather low, indeed not much higher than some wines. And, umm, there isn't really too much more to say about a drink is there?
Well I suppose I could whitter on about who makes this, the history behind it, and all that gumph. Really though, who cares?? The history behind it doesn't influence my decision to drink it, nor would it alter my opinion of it as a drink. So without any further ado, I'll tell you how and when I drink this.
On a hot summers day I find that a wee drop of Peach Schnapps in sparkling water with loads of ice is a really refreshing drink. Substitute sparkling water (or 'designer water' as Del Boy Trotter called it) with lemonade if you prefer. Either way just be sure not to put too much schnapps in, just a little drop to give a slight peachiness.
The other reason is that I cannot stand Champagne. "What the hell
has that got to do with Peach Schnapps?" you may well ask, the answer is simple. At family gatherings, special occasions etc there is always someone trying to make me drink champagne, so I always make sure there is some Peach Schnapps at hand. A half and half mixture of Peach Schnapps and Champagne is actually rather pleasant, far more pleasant than straight Champagne anyway. Oh, and this was a getting-plastered reason - and it does get me plastered believe me!! Another variation of this is to put a bottle of Champagne and a bottle of Peach Schnapps in a punch bowl and add a tin of peaches. The peaches aren't necessary, but they look as if you haven't just concocted it to get blootered.
And that's about it I think. Yeah, add something into it if you are going to drink it, or drink it straight if you fancy making yourself ill.
