Baileys Irish Cream
Advantages: creamy, smooth, sweet, warming, perfect for winter
Disadvantages: high in calories!
I am not a fan of cream or milk in my alcoholic drinks - I got a friend who loves those cocktails filled with cream and chocolate but I cant stand to drink them, they make me feel sick - but I LOVE Baileys.
It is a drink I only tend to drink around christmas time, and it definitely reminds me of cold dark nights and christmas festivities. It comes in a big black glass bottle with the usual red and gold Baileys banner on the front. It has a screw off cap (its worth noting here to keep the cap and top of the bottle clean otherwise you end up with a bit of crustiness around the top).
Baileys itself is very thick and creamy and caramal coloured. Its best to drink it in small amounts over ice, if you pour a lot into a glass with ice it will take you longer to drink and its not nice when the ice melts into water and you have watered down Baileys! I said earlier I dont like creamy drinks - this is very creamy and thick and I love it, I also dont like caramal - this tastes a lot like caramal and I still love it! I cant give you a good reason for this but Baileys is just simply that delicious! Its about 17% in alcohol volume, which is quite high to be drinking something straight, but it doesnt seem to get you 'drunk', a bit merry maybe but if I was drinking a normal spirit of this volume on its own i'd be falling over tables and chairs - but this doesnt have that effect - maybe its the high sugar and cream content - who knows! As it is so creamy and sweet it isnt a drink to be having if your watching the calories - Baileys is not good for you and is full of calories! I also love to put Baileys in my Coffee (not first thing in the morning obviously) or my hot chocolate to give it that extra creaminess, flavour and kick.
Overall I would definitely recommend this drink, especially over the coming months - its the perfect drink for winter. Dont go for any cheaper alternatives though, I remember trying one called Irish Knight I think it was, and it was so watery and horrible I threw the whole bottle away - go for the real thing!
Summary: perfect drink for christmas!
