“ Brand: Baileys / Type: Liqueur „
I'm a huge Baileys fan, and we always have 1 or 2 bottles of Baileys in the house. One of the flavours that we normally always have in is the Baileys Mint.
Baileys now sell quite a few different flavoured versions in the Baileys range, as well as the original Baileys Irish cream; they sell Baileys with a hint of Mint Chocolate, Baileys with a hint of Coffee, Baileys with a hint of Hazelnut, Baileys with a hint of Biscotti, and the new Baileys with a hint of Orange Truffle flavour. I've yet to try the Baileys with a hint of Orange Truffle flavour, but it does sound delicious!
Baileys with a hint of Mint Chocolate is definitely one of my favourite flavoured Baileys versions. It still has that velvety smooth and luxuriously rich classic Baileys taste, but it is blended with fresh undertones of mint and hints of dark chocolate. You can smell the mint in this as soon as you open the bottle and pour it into the glass. I would say that the mint in this is the main flavour, not the chocolate. However the mint is not too strong that it is overpowering, you can still taste the velvety smooth and rich Baileys Irish cream underneath as well. This to me tastes just like rich minty chocolates blended with the original Baileys Irish Cream. I personally don't think that the mint taste is too strong or overpowering, it isn't really a 'minty taste' as such, to me it's more of a velvety smooth and rich 'minty enhancement' - if that makes sense!
Baileys mint is absolutely delicious just served on its own, over lots of ice in a glass. It also works well in various cocktails. It's great in blended icy frappe style drinks. It's the perfect after dinner drink or night cap. It makes a gorgeous addition to a luxurious alcoholic hot chocolate drink made with cream and then topped with whipped cream and marshmallows. It is fabulous when poured over ice cream. Need I go on! You can use Baileys mint for lots of things, I think that it's actually a very versatile flavour. The only thing that I wouldn't use it in is coffee, because the mint is the main taste in this I don't think that this particular Baileys makes for good liqueur coffees, a minty coffee?!?
I do buy the Baileys mint flavour quite a lot, we do normally wait and buy it either on special offer in the supermarket or from the duty free though.
WHAT IS IT?
Baileys with a hint of a minty flavour. Baileys is a cream coffee liqueur and is perfect in its original form but they have introduced new flavours that start as limited edition for Christmas and are usually made permanent after.
Baileys is a strong tasting cream liqueur and has a strong alcoholic warmth when you drink it. It tastes of a form of coffee but I know people who dislike coffee but like Baileys. This one has a bit of a chocolate flavour but you can taste the mint strongly, it has a flavour that is similar to after dinner mints but you can still taste the original Baileys.
WHAT I THINK
This is a very nice Baileys flavour because it is so different to the things you'd usually expect to be partnered with coffee liqueur. I did not think the flavours would work but they do, I think the chocolate flavour is to help the mint blend in more smoothly because it is a natural and crisp taste that I don't think would go well with plain Baileys.
It contains 17% alcohol and it is a very strong drink if you drink too much or too quickly. I cannot drink much of any Baileys because the thick creamy texture is very rich, I usually only drink two glasses and then have to move to something else when I feel the Baileys getting sickly. It's best if you put ice in your drink because that chills the liquid and makes it slightly less rich as you drink it.
The mint doesn't make it refreshing but it's comforting to drink at night, I like to have a glass of mint Baileys when we have a takeaway Indian because it makes it feel more of an occasion and cools my mouth as I eat curry.
Mint Baileys costs about £15.50 for a normal sized bottle but is on offer in the supermarkets a lot for £10.

Since its first introduction nearly 30 years ago, Baileys has successfully combined the luxurious flavours of vanilla, chocolate, fresh cream and Irish whiskey to become one of the most popular spirits in the world. Now, with the addition Baileys Mint Chocolate, there's a whole new dimension to the Baileys cocktail experience.
