Advantages: lovely fruity light drink, doesn't taste like alcohol
Disadvantages: turns your mouth blue if you have too much!
When I was 18 which feels like forever ago I used to go out pretty much every weekend usually on a Saturday and a Sunday and one drink I discovered then was Blue Bols which I used to drink quite often. On a recent night in with some of my family I decided to host a bit of a cocktail night and Blue Bols was one of the drinks that I bought in for it.
The Blue Bols curacao comes in a fab looking bottle I think which features a long and thin neck which is ribbed. The Bols name is on the bottle as well as the information that the brand began in Amsterdam in 1575 and through it you can see this wonderful and distinctive blue liquor. I do think that this product is available in many supermarket and off licences but the price does seem to vary quite dramatically and so I would say look around. I paid just short of ten pounds for a 500ml bottle in asda but in my local off licence the product was selling for closer to fifteen pounds!
It is fair to say that I do like a quite sweet and fruity liquor as a drink as my other drink of choice is Malibu! Blue Bols is very fruity and this hits you just by taking off the lid and sniffing the bottle. It does smell quite citrusy as a lot of different oranges are used to blend it but it isn't over powering and the fruitiness in general takes over rather than just the orange scent.
I love to drink Blue Bols with lemonade as a mixer which is lovely and refreshing and tastes nothing like an alcoholic drink at all which I guess could be a little bit dangerous! I think that it is a perfect summers drink though because of this fact and can certainly imagine myself with a glass at a barbeque or something. This liquor is also used in a lot of different cocktails with other alcoholic drinks and online there are literally hundreds to choose from but one that I think is absolutely incredible is called purple rain and we made our own slightly adapted version of this to drink before we went out in Essex recently using Blue Bols, cherry flavoured sourz and lemonade and it is possibly my favourite drink now as it was just so easy to drink!
I think that this drink really is lovely and it is just so easy to drink because it is so sweet and fruity. I do like to have a mixer with it as it is 21% volume and I don't want to end up paralytic after just a couple of drink. The only thing with it is it turns your tongue blue which isn't the best look when you may be out on the pull! You don't need a massive amount with your mixer to make a fun looking, lovely tasting, summery drink and for that reason I do think it will be a product that I will be buying time and time again.
Thank you for reading my review!
