Briottet - Creme de Peche (Peach)
Advantages: Tasty and warming after dinner drink, the fresh peach taste is really evident, good price
Disadvantages: The drink is on the sweet side, a bit to much for me
I was having a clear out of my drinks cabinet not so long ago and stumbled upon a couple of bottles of liqueur that I had opened and not finished. We had been very fortunate over the Christmas period to have been brought some lovely and quite different drinks but then with myself and my other half getting a nasty virus for new year, we are still working our way through the Christmas stash! The other weekend we decided to have a small amount of the Briottet Creme de peach Liqueur that we had been given and it is that which I am going to be reviewing today, I have to be honest and admit that I had ever heard of this drink before and it was only after being given it that I seemed to spot it a little more. Here are my thoughts on the drink.
The Briottet drink will cost you around the £15.00 mark and this is for 70CL bottle. You will be able to get this bottle from places like your local off licence I imagine as when I went to see how much a bottle of this cost I found that the Briottet brand had quite a large variety of different flavoured liquors, many retailing at around the same price. I have seen that you can buy the drink online if you are not able to get it from your local off licence.
The bottle is tall and slim in shape and on first impression, I didn't think that it was a liquor drink inside it! The bottle is clear and you can see the peach mixture through it, although I would say that the colour of the drink is more of a honey colour. There is a label around the centre of the bottle. On the front of the label is the name of the product and that it has an alcohol rating of 18%. On the reverse of the label is a breakdown of the ingredients that have been used in the drink as well as a small description about the drink. We are told by the brand that this is " a high quality peach liquor that is from a French artisan producer. We are also told that all of the Briottet range have proper 'real' fruit flavour integrity - they taste like the fruit itself, not some confected approximation. With this high promise I was keen to try the drink.
I would say that for me the drink works best after a meal and not before. The first sip seemed to be very sweet but after getting used to it I was pleased with how it was easy to sip away and digest. I could not personally drink a large amount of this in one go, I don't think it is designed to be but it is rather sweet and the texture of the drink is quite a thick one. Even though this is a fruit mixture, I found it to be quite warming as well so it is fine to sip of a winters evening.
After having some more of this drink a couple of weekends after Christmas, I found it to be slightly less sweet, perhaps I had got used to what to expect with the drink. I found that the peach is definitely noticeable and it is refreshing as like the brand said, as opposed to a false taste. I would be more than happy to recommend this drink and I think it is actually a good price. You do just need to be wary thst this is on the sweet side.
4 out of 5 from me on this one
Thank you for reading
