Advantages: Lovely coconut and rum taste, really refreshing and tasty, cheap

Disadvantages: None

I have only quite recently discovered Cococabana and it is now my substitute for Malibu as this is like a cheaper generic version and quite a tasty one too. It is made with white rum and coconut and has an ABV of 17.5%.

I bought it in Tesco on a whim as it was only £4.99 for a 70cl bottle and I was in the mood for something light and tropical but not too fruity as I was sick of the cold winter weather and wanted to sit and pretend that I was on a tropical beach somewhere.

This is so similar to Malibu that I am sure most people wouldn't be able to tell the difference. It has the same thin and watery consistency to it and it also smells strongly of coconut and the taste is pretty spot on. The only slight thing that I think this is missing compared to the original is that this perhaps doesn't have the same strong coconut flavour of Malibu but it is only a very slight difference and one that you would be hard pressed to even notice.

It really does have a strong tropical flavour to it without being fruity so is perfect for those times that you want something just a little bit different from the norm. When drinking this I could really imagine being on a beach somewhere in the Caribbean.

It mixes really well with a variety of different mixers but my favourite one is with Pineapple juice as this gives it an ever more tropical flavour and it really compliments the coconut in it.

Malibu is or at least was a drink that I bought myself occasionally when I was in the mood for something different and summery but as Malibu is £15 for the same size bottle as this I shall no longer be purchasing it as the difference in taste is so minimal that I refuse to spend the extra just to get a brand when this is just as good.

Summary: As close to the tropics as I am likely to get anytime soon
