Disaronno Amaretto Liqueur I don't know if it is the original but Disoronno is probably the most famous Amaretto liqueur, with its squared off Art Deco style bottle it is an eye catching addition to any drinks tray or behind the bar. Disaronno is possibly also the oldest version. Disaronno is an ancient Italian Liqueur and is made in Saronno in the northern part of Italy, not far from Milan and they have been making it with their secret recipe handed down through the generations since 1525. PACKAGING: Disaronno is presented in a big brown rectangular bottle that as already mentioned in my mind is reminiscent of Art Deco. The bottle also reminds me of a house brick. Look a little closer and the thick brown glass is bobbled and the edges appear worn and uneven. This is topped by the now plastic square topper, which has Disaronno stamped in gold lettering. The label is an aged yellow/gold colour and the front has the name 'Disaronno Amaretto Originale'. All very stylish. TASTE TEST ( purely for the review you understand!): Now we already know that Amaretto is to do with Almonds, the liqueur presumably also contains apricot kernels and fruit pulp, herbs and of course sugar to make alcohol, but remember it is a secret recipe! The taste is... well unique, I have tried another Amaretto and found it wanting by comparison. This liqueur is somewhere near Southern Comfort when mixed with cherry brandy but much smoother, it is a smooth Almond taste, but not like marzipan, it reminds me of Christmas cake, but is probably because I use some in my cakes! Use it to flavour cakes, especially Christmas cakes, on its own over ice, with a mixer such as lemonade or pomegranate juice, with lemonade and a slice of lemon. It is a very nice drink. Inhale it and you are reminded of Christmas candles and spices. CONCLUSION: This is the best Amaretto and that is not just a marketing ploy by the company. Disaronno Amaretto delivers - it delivers a fabulous Christmas party! Unlike the postman - Disaronno always delivers! STARS: 5/5 ABV is 28% so drink with care! PRICE & AVAILABILITY: £30.00 per litre, available from larger supermarkets and off licenses and of course by the measure in your local pub or restaurant!
Disaronno is a happy discovery i made just about a year ago. I had got into my head to make a chocolate mousse - no idea why! A recipe I found online called for Ameretto so I bought a bottle, very cheap at £8 from Iceland, and once I had put some in the mousse decided to try it as a drink and it was lovely. The next time I tried to buy a bottle, the only one I could find was Disaronno which i was assured is the same thing. Well, they are certainly both a delicious almond flavour but Disaronno is a whole world better than the cheaper equivalent and well worth paying the usual price of £14 for a 50cl bottle in Sainsburys - although I like it even better when it's on offer. With an alcohol content of 28% vol it is quite strong but have thankfully found it does not cause the next morning headache that some drinks do. As mentioned, it is a definite almond flavour and is very smooth to drink no matter how you have it. Thankfully there is no artificial aftertaste which is present with cheaper equivalents. It is a rich, warm, brown colour and comes in a very stylish and solid rectangular bottle. So far i have found it very drinkable in coke, coffee, hot chocolate or on its own with ice. I even used it in my Christmas cake last year as I don't like brandy and the flavour was wonderful. Now don't get me wrong, i don't drink all that often, but it is very rare that you don't find even a little bit of Disaronno in my house. There has been times then i have had an open bottle for a few months and this has not affected the taste at all. If you like almond, you'll love this.
Disaronno, the amber-coloured liqueur with the incomparable taste, dates back to 1525. Original since birth, Disaronno is the Italians best selling liqueur around the world. Smooth, velvety and full of almond aromas. Disaronno is made from herbs and fruits steeped in crushed apricot kernel oil. Disaronno does not contain any nuts.
