“ Brand: Funkin / Type: Cocktail „
I'll start this review by saying ... I LOVE COCKTAILS! Cannot get enough of them - alcoholic or otherwise (I practically lived off Green Demons in the daytime on holiday!) however drinking them in bars and pubs is quite costly. I have a few recipe books for cocktails but I never seem to get around to buying all the ingredients I need for my favourites - one of which is the classic Mojito! Anyway a few weeks back I decided to get around to stocking the drinks cabinet so I could make some of my own after a long day at work, that is when I came across this 'Funkin Mojito Kit' which contained everything I needed to make one of my favourite drinks, but much quicker and cheaper! So without further hesitation I snagged this (along with a few other varieties) to try out at home. Now as I mentioned I love cocktails particularly this one so I had high hopes for this to be amazing ... can safely say I have not been disappointed. Not quite as good as a freshly mixed from scratch drink but a very reasonable (and a lot cheaper!) alternative.

Price - Mine cost around £5 - however that's for a glass, the mixer in a pouch & a 5cl bottle of Bacardi - everything you need to create the cocktail.
Stockists: I got mine from Tesco - also there is a Funkin website - funkin.co.uk - which has the whole range available.
Other Info: All Funkin cocktail mixes are made from 100% natural ingredients. This one in particular claims to be the perfect blend of limes, mint & sugar - all you have to do is add the rum!

Packaging & Products:
For a set that's relatively cheap for what you get the packaging overall and for each original item is actually quite nice. The box itself its black in colour with a clear film on the front so you can see everything contained inside - there is also a picture of the cocktail on the front so you have some idea of how the finished cocktail should look - in case you've never had one before. On the back of the box is the usual alcohol warnings and details of how to prepare the cocktail along with a list of things you should find inside - fairly standard. Now inside the box there is:
1 5cl bottle of bacardi - looks exactly like the large bottles only in miniature. This is more than enough to make at least 2 cocktails with - even more if you don't like them to be too strong (like me).
1 Funkin Mojito Mixer Pouch - This is silver in colour and has a small twist lid at the top to open and close - seems very secure - I didn't have any issues with it leaking anyway. This again contained enough for me to make 2 drinks - although if your having smaller measures you will be able to get more out of it. This works out at about £2.50 a cocktail - and when you consider the prices of them in bars that is really good.
1 small, clear glass - Nothing spectacular about this, its large enough to hold a decent amount of the drink and small enough to store away. It doesn't have the Funkin or Bacardi logo on it which is slightly disappointing but it does the job.
Its a nice little set overall in my opinion, I like that it comes with a glass as well as I think it would make a great gift for a cocktail lover - and its fairly cheap as well but still looks great. A perfect gift and a really nice looking set for the money you pay.

Bartender In Your Living Room:
Seriously making this couldn't be simpler - which is one of the main plus sides (that and it tastes great)! I got a little cocktail shaker for Christmas so I used that but its the same if you tip it into a glass and stir slightly - simply pour some Bacardi in - I used about half the bottle for each cocktail - and then top it up to your tastes with the ready made mix - then stir or shake ... then enjoy and drink! On the website it does say you sad add a lime wedge, mint leaves or ice if you have any lying around but to keep it simple and quick I just drank it with the rum and mixer. It tastes just as good with those 2 ingredients added - but if I had more time I probably would add some ice - I think it would just make it cooler and even more refreshing that way. But once again it all depends on how much time you have and what your personal cocktail tastes are.
I don't think there's any way that this can be done wrong but the end result should be a cocktail that is green and slightly cloudy in colour - it even looks refreshing, and I can say with certainty it was just the ticket after a full week at work!

Taste Test/Does It Measure Up?
I have to admit although I had high hopes for this I never thought it could possibly be as good as a Mojito made freshly in a cocktail bar - and while its never going to taste EXACTLY the same ... it measures up very well and tastes just as refreshing and tangy as some of the best I've tried in cocktail bars. It really does have the perfect balance of flavours in this - you get hints of the mint with is freshening, the lime with gives it a nice citrus tang - without being sour at all & the sugar makes it slightly sweeter - and for someone who loves sweet drinks that was amazing for me. None of the flavours overpower each other they just mix together nicely with the rum - which once again isn't too strong - if used in moderation. I'm not a huge fan of Bacardi so if it was too strong this would have been impossible for me to drink - you get the taste of it but without the throat burning associated with strong spirits!
Its definitely worth trying if your a cocktail fan or even if your just looking to try something different - with all the varied flavours I don't think this is a drink that everyone will like however if you like Mojito's you will 100% like the cocktail this mixer helps to create. Refreshing and not too strong if your looking for a nice summertime, daytime drink - but can be made stronger if your having a party or are looking for more of a kick from your drink. Everyone's will taste slightly different depending on how much rum and mixer you use but the basic tastes will be the same - and I thoroughly enjoyed my drink.

I definitely recommend to cocktail lovers - and I think it would make a perfect gift for birthdays or Christmas - makes a great couple of cocktails and cheap, everything I was looking for!

==Funkin Mixer Mojito==
After coming back from my holiday in Spain last year you would have thought that I had had quite enough of cocktails to last me a lifetime. This was not the case and I was cocktail crazy especially for Mojito's as the fresh mint and ice combination out in Spain was just so delicious and got my sozzled pretty quick too!
I have since sourced out different types of ready made Mojito which have been okay and I have tried to make my own which weren't that great but the best thing I have found so far has got to be this Funkin Mixer Mojito flavour.
At a little over £1 for this mix it is not that cheap but more often than not you can get it on some srt of 4 for £3 deal but still it is a little bit more expensive than buying the bottles of drink that you would need to mix it up yourself. However the fact that it is handy, easy and very tasty does make it seem worth while.
The good thing about this mixer is that it has no artificial flavours, colours or preservatives and it literally contains the basic ingredients that a Mojito cocktail needs which is water, limes, lemons, sugar and natural mint essence. Of course you need to have both the white rum to mix this with (and they suggest using Bacardi so I am assuming have some sort of endorsement from them) and a full glass of ice as with a Mojito you can never have enough ice.
The packaging of the mixer is really rather unique as it comes in a very simple and lightweight pouch with a screw capped top. This does have the recycling symbol on the back but I am not sure where you would take it to be recycled. Anyhow the design of this works well to ensure you can get all of the mixer out well and none is wasted.
You can either make one large drink from this pouch of mixer or if you choose two small drinks. Ti doesn't actually state on the packaging how much is in the pouch but mixed with the rum and the ice it does make up a good sized drink.
The drink itself is a cloudy colour which is really what you would expect with lime and lemon juice mixed with water. The smell of the zesty fruit is really strong and the mint aroma is clearly there as well. Mixed with the alcohol and ice it makes for a very delicious looking drink. The fact that it is 100% natural makes it seem even more tempting.
The taste is really very good as well and like I said before far better than any other made up Mojito cocktail I have tried. The lime and mint are the two strongest flavours as they should be but because of it being all natural it tastes like one that you have made yourself with fresh and true flavours bursting out of the drink. Of course I like the fact that you can add your own rum because you can then make it as weak or as strong tasting as you like. You could even mix it with vodka if you so wished.
All in all I feel that if you can't get the taste right of your own Mojito cocktails (like me) this is a far better thing to purchase so that you get the flavour right and taste right simply and quickly. This probably works out better buying these and the bottle of alcohol to mix with rather than buying a large already made up cocktail in a bottle as you know how much alcohol your really getting.
The taste is nice and I can't find a single thing to say bad about this little pouch and for that reason I feel a top score of 5 out of 5 stars and a very high recommendation is in order.
I do hope that this has been of some help/interest to you
many thanks for taking the time to read.
As i mentioned in my previous reveiw i received some drink gift sets over christmas and thought i would set about trying to reveiw them. I am a big cocktail lover :) However buying them in bars or making them yourself can be quite expensive as you have to buy alot of ingredients so when i opened this on christmas morning i was quite chuffed.
Stockists: Most Supermarkets (My Mom Bought it In Tescos)
Contents: 5cl Bacardi Bottle, Clear Glass, 'Funkin' Mojito Mixer Pouch.
~What I Thought~
The box the gift set came in is pretty much as pictured it is black with a large picture of a mojito on the front and a window cut out so you can see hwtas inside. I personally think the box is one of the better ones as far as drink sets are concerned as it looks quite expensive and the picture gives you a clear idea of what the drinbk should look like and kind of makes you want a mojito!! :)
I have never heard of the 'Funkin' range before but i have since found out that they sell a wide variety of different cocktail mixer pouches, making it possible to make your favourite cocktail quite literally in seconds. The mojito pouch contains a blend of mint limes and sugar which when added with the barcardi tastes JUST like a mojito you woul order in a bar!!
The instructions on the pack said the pouch (along with the provided Barcardi) would make 1 fairly large cocktail but i personally made 3 small sized ones as i dont really like the taste of strong bacardi so i didnt mix them too strong. The pack also said to add ice and a twist of lime but i didn't bother instead i just chilled the puch in the fridge befor serving.
I would definitley reccomend this set as for a fiver i think its an absolute bargain!!! Theres no need to use a cocktail shaker or anything over complicated like that just pour together in a glass and maybe give it a bit of a stir if you want. The Mojito tasted just like the ones i've had in bars and you can easy make 2 or 3 from just one pouch of mixer. The only negative point is that the glass in the set doesn't have a brand name written on like some of the other sets i have recieved meaning you are left with just a plain glass but thats not that big an issue to be honest as this is definitley one of the better gift sets i have receved :)
