Gordon's Gin and Bitter Lemon:
I do love the occasional gin and tonic especially in the summer when I find it quite refreshing but buying a whole bottle of the stuff just for one drink isn't always an option. When I saw these pre-mixed cans of drinks in Tesco I was intrigued and I chose the bitter lemon option as it was on an introductory offer of £1.00 a can.
The can features the familiar Gordon's logo and the rest of the can reflects the packaging of Schweppes Bitter Lemon being green and blue with a kind of bubble effect. As with all Gordon's/Schweppes products I find the packaging a little dated looking.
Once the can is open (ring pull, very easy and not liable to breaking off) you get a wonderfully summery lemon scent coupled with the very alcoholic smell of Gordon's Gin. Despite Gordon's best efforts to convince me otherwise I always find Gordon's Gin to have an aroma of pure alcohol instead of the various botanical extracts I find in different brands. Having said that it is still a very pleasant scent; obviously I like the smell of lemons and alcohol.
I was quite surprised when I tasted the drink for the first time as it was really, really nice! The bitter lemon works perfectly with the crisp gin to provide a refreshing drink. I hadn't had bitter lemon as a mixer before, put off by the name I think, but this wasn't bitter at all, just zesty and crisp. I think this would be amazing poured over crushed ice to make a gin and lemon slushie! It refreshes the palette wonderfully and would be great to break up the courses of a big meal.
At £1.00 for a 250ml can it's good value and better than spending £15.00 + on a whole bottle for the sake of one drink. The other pre-mixed cans are normally £1.79 which makes them a little pricey but okay for the odd treat or for taking with you on a picnic or camping. It's not a bad way to try gin to see if you like it without wasting too much money if you don't.
I can see me buying this again, especially if it's on offer and would recommend it to anyone who likes gin and just fancies the one.
Summary: A nice refreshing tipple for the summer ...
