Advantages: Tastes great.
Disadvantages: Expensive.
Malibu rum is an exotic version of rum, the alcoholic drink traditionally from the Caribbean. Normally rum is a bit darker in colour and has quite a heavy taste. It comes in several varieties, which all taste very different in my opinion. For example I cannot stand white rum (for example Bacardi) but I love spiced rum and Malibu. So if you have tried one type of rum and don't like it, don't let that put you off trying any other rums.
Malibu comes in a variety of sizes but you can expect to pay around £15 for a litre. There are cheaper imitation versions. A few are good, some are rubbish, so research before you buy. As I have said in all my alcohol reviews, if you buy from the supermarket it is much cheaper than the convenience stores.
Malibu comes in a glass bottle. The bottle itself is clear glass but is covered in white plastic, with a picture of palm trees on and the Malibu logo. I can never remember the packaging changing, it has been like this for years, and manages not to look old fashioned, which is impressive.
The lid is a screw on and off black lid. I am not sure how secure it is once it is undone and done back up.
Malibu itself is clear in colour and very sweet to taste, it is a very sugary version of rum, with a very distinctive coconut taste. I certainly wouldn't recommend it if you don't like coconut. It is stronger than a lot of liqueurs at around 20%. As it is a bit weaker it is OK to drink by itself, or with a variety of mixers. It goes well with some stranger ones, like milk and pineapple because of its distinctive taste, interesting when tried with soda water it tastes like cream soda!
I really really like the taste of Malibu and if I am drinking to get drunk it actually makes me happy drunk because of the sugar! It is a bit more expensive to drink when out in pubs, so probably one to save for the house or parties.
Summary: Totally tropical taste.
