A taste of the exotic.........

Advantages: Smell of coconut
Disadvantages: Quite expensive.
Seeing as one of my all time favourite smells and tastes is coconut, it's probably hardly surprising that Malibu is one of my favourite spirits. If anything captures the heady exotic inspiring smell of holidays it's Malibu! As soon as you smell it you feel like you're on a beach slathering on sun cream. You can almost see palm trees swaying in front of you when you drink this!!
Malibu comes in a very distinct solid white glass bottle. To me the white represents the white flesh in a coconut. On the front there is a picture of a sunset with the silhouette of palm trees in front of it - just to add to the beach holiday theme that Malibu is all about. There is a screw cap at the top which is easy to unscrew. Malibu itself is a rum drink heavily flavoured with coconut. I am not normally a fan of rum but I love the taste of Malibu, which I purely put down to the coconut addition.
When you pour it you will see it is a very thin consistency, thicker than water but just as clear as it. The smell will hit you straight away and is a very strong smell of coconut. I wouldn't be able to drink it on its own as rum is too strong for me so I prefer to drink my Malibu with Coke (or Diet Coke!) but I have also had it with pineapple juice which is gorgeous. The combination of the coconut just works so well with these mixers and really do it justice. I do think it needs to be drunk ice cold so make sure you have some ice cubes on stand by. I have heard that people mix it with milk but as I have a strong disliking for milk, apart from a dribble on my cereal, I wouldn't be able to bring myself to try this. It tastes so coconutty whatever you mix it with that it is delicious. To me it encapsulates the feeling of being on holiday even if you are sat in your back garden at home.
A 70cl bottle will cost you £14 in Tescos which is very similar to other supermarket prices. It is also sold in all off licenses as well.
Word of warning, if you don't like coconut stay well clear!!
Summary: Strong coconut flavour rum which is delicious and reminds you of holidays!
