Passoa - bring a taste of passionfruit to the glass - make mine a large one
Member Name: thriftygiftyisme
Advantages: Taste of the Caribean with the passion fruit,
Disadvantages: Bit sweet to serve on its own
This drink I first discovered about 20 years ago in Tesco, but in Cite Europe Shopping complex, it stood out on the shelf, the glamorous and the slinky black bottle, what mysteries had it got hidden, with the exotic looking label of a tropical sunset, was this a ploy to seduce me into buying this mysterious bottle. Yes I was seduced, and now 20 years later, I have a bottle at Christmas as a treat, as I find that the prices have changed dramatically over the years, considering I was paying about £5 when I first brought it, to the price of about £15 now.
I was seduced by the bottle but would the flavour hold up, as it was a passion fruit flavoured liqueur, as first I tried the drink neat, I will admit that I did find it unusual being pink, as it is a bright pink, it is a sweet drink, yet still light and refreshing. It has an alcohol content of 17%.
On the reverse of the bottle, the label explains a bit about the drink, but it also gives you suggestions that you can mix the drink with including orange juice, pineapple juice and cranberry to name a few.
Orange Juice - I found this to be too sweet of a mix, with the sweetness of the passion fruit, and the orange it reminded me of a cough medicine that you had as a child when your mum always use to say its tastes nice.
Pineapple Juice - I found this to be really nice, as the bitter/sweet of the pineapple was a perfect contrast to the Passoa and I would recommend this with some ice.
Cranberry Juice - I can't comment on this as I only drink cranberry juice when I have an irritation of the bladder, and don't think excess alcohol would help.
Cola - I have mixed passoa with coke and I found it a really good combination, as the contrast of the fizzy and sharpness of the coke, a perfect combination
Dr Pepper - This may sound weird but this is an amazing combination, the mix of flavours just come alive in the glass.
This drink is not just for Christmas, and would be ideal for a party or a gift, but one thing thou it does not really taste like alcohol and slips down very well.
70cl Bottle - Most Supermarkets - Around £15 a Bottle.
Summary: A great drink, mixes well, fun, but again too expensive
