I love cocktails and one of my favourites is the pina colada. It is not the easiest cocktail to make well however I am always willing to try one. I was excited when I found that Sainburys made a range of cocktails and pina colada was one of them.
The pale yellow drink comes in a glass bottle that is shaped like a cocktail mixer, which I think is quite quirky and eye-catching. The black label on the front has a picture of some coconut and pineapple indicating the flavours, and obviously the name. For £4.99 you get 700ml of drink, which is quite reasonable for a cocktail.
The ingredient to the drink include water, sugar, white wine, cream, alcohol, milk proteins, white rum, flavouring, pineapple juice etc. It is quite a rich drink and contains 157kal per 100ml, 19.3g sugars and4.4g of saturated fat. It is also quite strong at 14% alcohol and contains 9.8 units.
Unfortunately this is not a great pina colada. It tastes very strongly of alcohol and the others flavours are overpowered. However if you had a small amount diluted with some milk it is not too bad, although it is too rich to have too much at once. I suppose it is to be expected for a cheap version of the cocktail.
