My best friend (Dooyoo member Amanda-Jayne) came around to my house last week, for drinks, food and a catch up. While we were in at Asda, buying supplies, we spotted Smirnoff Cosmopolitan with Triple Sec on the shelf. Amanda and I used to regularly hit the town and drink cocktails into the wee hours, but unfortunately those days are over - we don't have the funds anymore - so more often than not its drinks at home for us.
Smirnoff Cosmopolitan with Triple Sec was on offer in Asda when we bought it (for £9.99), however it's usually £13.97 for a 70cl bottle and the alcohol content is 12.5%.
On the bottle it claims that this product is "an exquisite blend of Smirnoff no.21TM, the world's number one premium vodka, triple sec liqueur, cranberry juice and a dash of lime flavour." ...Which sounds pretty tasty...
When we got back to the house Amanda and I allowed the bottle to chill before serving it...We poured it into martini glasses and both took a sip... however after that initial taste we were both looked at one another grimfaced... our "cosmopolitan cocktails" were disgusting... I've drank many a Cosmopolitan in my time and never have I tasted one as ghastly as this.
The drink had a strong vodka taste to it - which I suppose is to be expected - but instead of resembling a Cosmopolitan it reminded me of a cheap and nasty vodka shot (the type of thing you'd buy from a promotions girl on a night out).
We both managed to drink about a glasses and a half of this, through gritted teeth, but unfortunately it didn't get any tastier and I still have half a bottle of the stuff sat in my fridge.
I don't recommend this - at all - and I can't believe we wasted a tenner on it... a disappointing one star from me.
