I don't tend to drink alcopops very much as they are too sweet for me but I had a few friends round the other week and some of them brought this round. I used to drink this a lot more when I was younger but now I much prefer a nice glass of wine or a cider. Smirnoff Ice is a vodka mixer drink, it comes in the format of smaller bottles or a larger 70cl bottle. It is sold widely everywhere but it is best for people who don't like a strong drink and like something a bit more fruity and refreshing.
PACKAGING
I have the Smirnoff Ice in the larger 70Cl packaging, it is a tall glass bottle and it has the Smirnoff red label on the middle with the company name embossed into the glass. The label has information on the drink and its percentage and the bottle has a red lid and it is quite simplistic but very distinct. Through the clear glass you can see the cloudy lemonade type colour of the drink itself which is how I always recognise it as the drink is a different colour from most alcoholic drinks on the shelf.
SMIRNOFF ICE
Now, to begin with Smirnoff Ice is a triple filtered drink and it is made with sugar, vodka and sweeteners which comes as no surprise. The drink contains 4% volume which isn't really that high but for the type of drink that it is, this seems about right. This glass bottle contains 2.8 units in terms of alcohol so should be drunk with care and it states on the bottle that this is best served cold. I always put this in the fridge as soon as I get it, as the temperature of this makes a big difference to the taste.
This drink has a fizzy taste to it which is actually quite nice and to be honest, it is difficult to pick up on any vodka taste in here as it really doesn't seem that apparent. It has a tangy lemon taste which you can pick up on right away and it just tastes like a more concentrated lemonade to me. This is a refreshing drink and in the summer this would be nice to drink to cool down if you are having friends round. The main thing for me that I don't like with this though is the sour taste, it just seems too strong on the lemon for me.
Being an alcoholic drink, this does have nutritional values as no alcohol is calorie free. In terms of this drink per 100ml it is 64 calories and 0g of protein. It is also 8g of carbohydrates and 0g of fat so really it doesn't sound like the worst at all but if you think a normal serving is more than 100ml so if you drink a lot of this it will not be the best for you. I can't imagine the amount of sugar and sweeteners in this would be that good also as you can practically taste it, it is that sweet.
Overall, this is a nice drink by Smirnoff for those who like to drink but don't want anything too obviously alcoholic. It provides a juice like taste making it seem a lot more easier to drink but if you do not like tangy lemonade you will not enjoy this. For me, it is just too sour and too sweet but if you have a sweet tooth then you will love this drink as it will tick all of the right boxes. It is a cheap drink to buy and you get a lot in a bottle and served right out of the fridge this is quite refreshing.
COST
To buy Smirnoff Ice, you can get it at all supermarkets, the 70Cl is being sold at Tesco for £3.25 or on multibuy offer 2 for £5.50 which is a little bit of a saving. You can also buy 4 x 275ml bottles for £4.75 or 12 x 275ml bottles for £11 on price drop.
