Last night myself and my best friend Liz decided to have a dvd night with munchies and an Indian meal for two from Asda. We fancied a drink and ended up actually almost clearing the shelves of the place and bought way too much alcohol lol. I woke up this morning thinking I was dying after consuming a whole bottle of this on my own plus about 10 small bottles of beer and my mate downed bottles of wine. Thankfully this isnt our usual behaviour but we believe it does us not too much harm letting our hair down occasionally though I dont think my neighbours were too pleased at us singing Michaal Ball songs at 4 this morning so I'm keeping my head own lol.
I love mojitos and whenever I get the opportunity to indulge in one I'll take it. Sadly though no where round here does them any good and I miss my old haunts in Coventry for them so knowing that this was a Smirnoff product I had high hopes that it'd be not only delicious but good quality too and costing only £5.00 for a bottle I couldnt wait to get stuck into it.
The bottle of this is actually really nice and excudes quality. The bottle is glass, silver coloured to the top of it and the base of the glass is a light mint green shade and it has a screw on/off lid/cap to the top of it and on on the front of it in black, white and dark green writing we are told that it is Smirnoff Cocktails Vodka Based Mojito 'A blend of Smirnoff No 21 premium vodka, key lime liqueur and a dash of mint flavours' and then we are told to shake before serving it, that it gives us 6 servings, that the bottle is 70cl and the whole thing contains 12.5 volume. On the back of the bottle serving instructions are given, we are told that the whole bottle contains 8.8 units and contact details for Smirnoff are given.
I so wanted to love this believe me! The price is good for what its meant to be and in fact I have paid a lot more for a fresh one made up for me in a bar in the past for just one of them so it felt a very good buy to me lol. All you do is give it a good shake and serve it chilled. Its best over ice in my opinion as this is not nice served at room terperature at all and you can add a spring of mint to it if you so desire. This drink is mixed and ready to serve so you don't 'need' to add anything to it and away you go.
I got 4 long drinks from this and each one I hated. I thought the more I drunk and the more merry I became I'd like it but no the flavour got worse in my opinion. The liquid is clear, flat and not fizzy and its still. It smells minty and thats the way it tastes in the main to me. The vodka in flavour really comes out in this drink for me though and was a tad too strong in that department and a bit too bitter for me. The lime flavour was there and that wasn't a problem but the spearmint flavour was overwhelming in the flavour stakes for me and I felt like i was drinking a gentle mouthwash and even my mate said your breath smells nice anyway which made us giggle our heads off.
It is potent stuff this, after 2 glasses I was squiffy as anything but I wont be drinking this again I simply didn't like it. You want a mojito get a real one as this is a real poor attempt at one!

I am not a huge drinker and only drink a selection of alcoholic drinks especially when it comes to cocktails. The Mojito is one of my favourites so when me and clur bur saw it on offer for £9.99 we felt it would be rude not to give it a try. However, I was sceptical as this mojito is made with vodka and not rum with which traditional mojito's are made with. Also, I hate vodka, I would even go so far as to say I think vodka is the 'devils drink'. I completely disagree with people who say they can never taste vodka in their drink. This Smirnoff Mojito comes is a distinctive silver bottle which is clear at the bottom. It comes in a 70cl bottle and has a 12.5% alcohol content.
As it turns out, I ended up pleasantly surprised as I actually enjoyed the taste of this drink. I found it was very smooth with a minty and refreshing taste. To my joy I could not taste a hint of vodka. It was evident this was not a real mojito though as it was much sweeter due to the lack of rum and the sugar being in the drink rather than around the rim of the glass. I would recommend having this drink poured over ice or at least chilled.
Despite enjoying this drink I am unable to award more than 3 stars. For me drinking a cocktail is not just about the drink itself but the way it makes a girl feel. A cocktail should be sophisticated, and call it cliché but should be sex and the city style. But there is nothing sophisticated or glamorous about drinking light green liquid from your average tumbler sat in your pj's. (not that I didn't have a fun night clur bur) Cocktails should be drank when wearing heels or on holiday so unless I'm having a super stylish party this drink will be off my shopping list-whether it is on offer or not.
Smirnoff Mojito Cocktail
having just got back from Spain and drinking cocktails the majority of the time, I have been trying to get that holiday feeling back by having cocktails at home.
The Mojito was a new cocktail that I tried when abroad and I must say I fell in love with it. Being a regular vodka drinker I wasn't sure that I would necessarily like the white rum contents of the regular Mojito but it seemed I did. However I did see this vodka version of the popular rum cocktail whilst in Tesco for £10 instead of the usual £14 so I couldn't help but try it.
The bottle is a 70 cl size and is a 12.5% alcohol volume. This is more or less like drinking a bottle of wine so I must say that after consuming the whole bottle myself I did feel rather sloshed!
The Mojito drink itself is a mix of mint, lime, sugar, ice and of course white rum which is replaced in this Smirnoff version by vodka. This drink is a lovely light green tinged colour and really must have a ton of ice to go with it. I found it a far smooth drink with the vodka when comparing it to the classic rum version.
I did enjoy it and I certainly wouldn't say no should I be offered one but I did find it lacking something like a bit of bite which is where the white rum would usually step up.
For £10, its not a cheap drink seeing as you get around 4 large glasses out of a bottle (it does say 6 on the bottle but my large glasses needed filling up more!)
On the whole it was a nice drink but not the best Mojito in the world. I think for people who don't like the white rum in the original version this would be a great substitute.
I think a score of 4 out of 5 stars and a recommendation is in order.
Many thanks for taking the time to read
I do hope that this has been of some help/interest to you.
Last week me and my best friend (Dooyoo member Amanda-Jayne) tried out Smirnoff Mojito with Key Lime. It was on offer in Asda when we bought it (for £9.99), however it usually retails at £13.97 for a 70cl bottle - the alcohol content is 12.5%.
I love Mojitos, but I must admit, I was a little dubious before I purchased this, because rum is the key ingredient in Mojito - not vodka - so I wasn't entirely convinced that this drink would be up to much. But on the bottle it claimed that the product was "an exquisite blend of Smirnoff no.21TM, the world's number one premium vodka, key lime liqueur and a dash of mint flavours." ...Which did sound pretty tasty... so we decided to give it a go...
When we got back to the house Amanda and I allowed the bottle to chill for a few hours before serving it... to be honest we really weren't expecting much at this point, because we'd tried Smirnoff Cosmopolitan with Triple Sec earlier on it the evening, which was grim to say the least (please see the review previous to this one).
We both poured the drink into mojito glasses and we each took a sip... we were both shocked... surprisingly the Smirnoff Mojito with Key Lime was absolutely delicious. The combination of mint and lime was just right -it is fruity and has a tangy kick. Also, the taste of vodka wasn't overpowering and although there wasn't any rum in the Smirnoff Mojito with Key Lime, I didn't miss it. This really is a tasty and refreshing drink.
I like to make my own Mojitos with Cuban rum and although the Smurnoff version isn't quite as tasty, it was still impressive. However I can't help thinking that £13.97 is a lot to pay for a 70cl bottle. I will purchase it again, but only when it's on offer... Four out of five stars.
