Advantages: tastes great, mixes well, good in cocktails
Disadvantages: quite expensive, gives a nasty hangover
Southern comfort is a liqueur which is based on bourbon whisky with fruit and spice flavours. The unique flavour is made using cinnamon, mango, grape, orange, vanilla and sugar. I was introduced to it a few years ago, at a time when I despised anything stronger than beer, but after I tried it, I couldn't get enough.
I used to drink it straight, with no water or ice or anything. This was ok, but I felt that the taste of alcohol took over the subtle flavours of the southern comfort. So now I have it with lots of ice. This dilutes the drink slightly, and takes the edge off, making it far nicer to drink. I also enjoy it with lemonade, or coke. With both of these mixers I feel that they perfectly complement the tastes of the southern comfort. The taste itself is quite unique and it always reminds me of summer.
Southern comfort is used in many popular cocktails such as, "Greek Sex on the Beach", "Sloe Comfortable Screw", "SocaCola", "SoCo-LoCo", "Liquid Cocaine" and "Steamboat".
Southern comfort is quite an expensive drink, but I think that its worth every penny. It costs about £18 depending on where you get it from for a 70cl (700ml) bottle. If you go on holiday to places like France you can get a 1 litre bottle for about the same price.
Overall I think southern comfort is a lovely drink which can be drunk on its own or with a variety of mixers. I would recommend it to everyone.
Summary: a beautiful drink which is great for any occasion
