Advantages: SWEET, CHEAP AND STRONG.
Disadvantages: SWEET, CHEAP AND STRONG!!
Whilst browsing through the dooyoo catalogue I came across this picture of the alcohol drink Taboo. I have to say that just the memory of this sickly sweet drink brings me to the point of nausea. But this is due to a small incident with this drink that resulted in that event all teens have, getting totally trollyed!!
My encounter with taboo began when I was 17 and would venture with my friends down to the town centre on a Saturday night. Going into the trendy bars we thought we were the bees knees. To further promote our sophistication we would order a Taboo and lemonade. This drink is quite potent and contains vodka, white wine and exotic fruits. It is ridiculously sweet and for my immature taste buds this was delightful.
The taste is very fruity, almost like an overly sweet tropical juice. If I could liken it to anything I would say it tasted quite like the passion fruit soft drink Lilt. However this drink is quite syrupy and has a very distinctive sweet and exotic taste.
This drink was first introduced for sale in 1988. I remember there was a huge advertising campaign promoting taboo as a sexy and sophisticated drink. The taboo phenomenon took off, and just months after being introduced, Taboo was one of the most popular alcoholic drinks on the market.
I do believe that this drink was favoured by young fun loving girls. Girls who were getting ready to go out and party. I think this drink had a list of appealing features it was powerfully strong, fairly cheap at around £8 a bottle and quite pleasing to drink.
However, fast forward to a house party when I was 17 and god did I get ill on this drink. Trying to be clever I drunk far too much of this and ended up in a right royal state. Luckily I had a lot of mates there to look after me and make sure I came to no harm. I was very sick though and the hangover the next day was torture.
Now this drink is not so popular. Infact, I havent seen it around for a long time. There was talk of it being re marketed in order to gain popularity again. I hope that this drink does not come back into fashion. I can smell a glass of this a mile off. It smells of sweet sickly perfume and makes me heave. But for anyone who likes sweet and potent drinks I suppose you could do far worse. Just don't go mad or you'll be sorry!!
Summary: BRINGS BACK BAD MEMORIES OF SICKIE TIMES!!
