Disadvantages: may be too strong for some
My daughter introduced me to Tia Maria a few years ago. I wasn't sure I would like it at first but it is now one of my favourite little tipples.
It is a coffee based liquor. You can buy it in 'cheaper' versions with other brands trying to copy it but I haven't found one which is as nice.
It comes in a bottle identical to the picture; it's very wide at the bottom and has a long top. It is red, gold and black which makes it look quite like a warming drink I think and it is very accurate as it is a warming kind of drink.
It is 20% so it is strong. I tend to just have one or two when I'm having a drink.
You can drink it on it's own or mixed with other items. If I drink it on it's own I tend to have it with a lot of ice which makes it really nice. It is a rich coffee flavour which warms your throat on the way down. It is very strong at first and does take a little bit of time to adjust to. If I drink it mixed I tend to have it with diet coke, if I have it with full sugar coke I find it's too sweet so diet is best. My daughter likes to drink it with orange juice but I found this was a very odd taste! Other variation you can have it with are creamy things as this is quite a rich drink so if you put it in a milk/cream-based cocktail it can be rather rich but is lovely. My daughter even drizzles a bit on icecream when we eat out!
I think if you like coffee you'll like this but even if you don't like coffee then give this a go as it may just surprise you.
