Reef - Deliciously Fruity Vodka
Member Name: Abski2001
Advantages: Tastes fruity and refreshing
Disadvantages: No taste of vodka = dangerous!
I used to drink a lot of these in my younger days on nights out; they always seemed to be on special offer in the bars and clubs of my hometown. This was before any minimum alcohol pricing came into effect and you could get a bottle for £1 or less in places!
This drink is an Alco pop which is basically a ready mixed alcoholic beverage, consisting of a spirit and a mixer. They are extremely popular in bars and clubs as they are cheap, readymade and quick to sell.
The Vodka Reef drink comes in the typical 175 ml bottle size. This is made of thick glass in a thin and tall bottle shape. The neck of the bottle is designed in a twirled pattern giving the bottle a bit of texture and a more fancy design than its competitors.
The Reef label is a nice bright orange to match the drink inside, the Reef branding is a dark blue and this is written in a laid back and beach like font - that is what it reminds me of anyway. The top of the bottle has a removable bright orange cap that you need a bottle opener to open.
The Reef Alco pop is based on a vodka with orange drink and as such looks much like a glass of orange juice. The colour is a light orange/yellow with some orange 'bits' visible within it, like a glass of orange juice you simply give it a little swirl or shake (calmly if the lid is off!) and this then dissolves into the drink. It is quite a thin and watery consistency.
I generally drink this out of the bottle, especially if I am out and dancing around. The taste is a nice fresh orange juice which is sweet and quite sugary, but not as sugary as other Alco pops that I have tried such a WKD. The reduced amount of sugar means that this is very easy drinking and tastes much like a J20 because you cannot taste the alcohol inside!
I have always thought that orange juice as a mixer easily masks any alcohol inside a drink and this is no different. All I can taste is the fruity orange mix with a hint of passion fruit, when this is served ice cold it is really light and refreshing. As I have said this is quite a sweet drink so I couldn't drink more than a couple of bottles without it becoming a bit sickly. This is also a still Alco pop which makes it even more easy drinking! A danger when you are out in a club and not keeping tabs on hoe many of these you are consuming.
This is a 5% ABV drink and this is a pretty standard measure for these kinds of drinks. Overall it is very tasty and satisfying and so I am giving it 4 Dooyoo Stars. You can buy this in many bars and pubs and also in supermarkets as a single bottle for around the £2 mark.
