**1st National Bank plc is now part of G E MONEY**
(or Shylocks-R-us) Owned by US General Electric.
I took out a home improvement loan to replace windows, doors, roof, etc. over 15 yrs. Insured payment protection. Higher than average interest. You spend the 1st few yrs clearing only the interest off the loan then start to clear the borrowed amount, basically if you find you are in a position to clear your loan early, you'll still have lost thousands in interest.

Lost job a couple of yrs later, claimed insurance, they paid up for 1 yr then stopped. It's in the small print that they pay for 12 mths only. Continued unemployment means I've run up a couple of thousand of pounds in arrears and they are now moving to repossess my home, (thanks Eversheds! - or Shysters-R-Us), despite the fact it's on the market & has ample equity so there is no risk to them.

I've paid them many thousands of pounds in interest and now owe them more than I did on day one!! Interest & penalties have been heaped on month-on-month and I will be landed with thousands of pounds of THEIR legal charges for the privilege of being evicted!
C/S staff absolutely unhelpful, all they did was pass my details onto another loans company so I could take out another loan to pay them back.

I can't find any borrower who has anything good to say about them, check out reviews at Ciaou, none of them very flattering. Out of 140+ banks/ lenders in survey they come out worst;

Absolute soul-less vultures, avoid at all costs!!!
Stated Without Prejudice (of course).

Summary: THE WORST THING YOU WILL EVER DO IN YOUR LIFE IS BORROW FROM FNB!!

There are so many products like this out there where the small print holds all sorts of nasty suprises. Ultimately debt is something that needs to be well managed and lots of financial institutions are finding that they have to foreclose on loans that in the past they would have let run simply to get their figures in better shape.
