Advantages: Hopefully, the "readies" will arrive soon!

Disadvantages: Filling in forms is a complete nightmare!

After applying for a loan from the Natwest recently, to pay off outstanding student debts accrued many years ago, and being refused, I decided to look elsewhere. NatWest would not even give me a reason why my loan application had been rejected, and even the bank manager was completely astonished, and very embarrassed. Apparently, NatWest do not divuldge as to why they reject potential customers. Not one to argue, I started looking through the newspapers and magazines.

There are a great many loan companies which advertise in the Sunday press and on the back of Women's supplements. One such loan provider is the one who I selected; Wilmslow Financial Services.

Firstly, you have to phone a freephone number, you are then sent a provisional loan application form, which you then send back, detailing payments you wish to consolidate.
However, I sent mine back and was originally rejected, because my debts (student loan, overdraft, a couple of credit cards) didn't actually show up on my credit reference check, so in their eyes, I didn't need a consolidation loan, and they were unwilling to lend me the money.

How bizarre, I stated: surely there is a way around it? I re-submitted an application, stating "Home Improvements and Consolidation", and my application moved on rapidly apace.

About a week later, I received yet another form, I also had to send details of mortgage repayments, bank statements, etc. (never throw anything away!!).

Last week I had to fill out yet another for, and even have it signed by two witnesses. They say they send the cheque by return of post, but what with the petrol and all that, I'm still waiting.

All in all, it has taken me over 6 weeks to apply for a loan, including about a week spent on the phone, filling forms out and looking for bank statements and solicitors letters. So, if you're thinking of applying for a loan, allow yourself lots of time!

Dooyoo members will be pleased to know, I finally received the cheque today. However, 'cause we'd applied for the loan in joint names, the cheque is made payable to both of us, so we now have to open a joint account and wait a further week for the cheque books to arrive, before we can start spending the money!
Therefore, MORE forms to fill in!!

This was a bit of an eye-opener for me as I didn't realise it could be so complex. I've only arranged one loan and it took ten minutes over the telephone with First Direct (who I have plugged so much on dooyoo that they ought to employ me in their marketing department).
