Advantages: Most students have no choice in the matter

Disadvantages: Not nearly enough!

I am now in fourth year and already have several student loans to my name, which I think is ludicrous in a society which is supposedly trying to encourage it's teenagers into higher eduction.

I am however highly reliant on this form of finance and was extremely dismayed to find that this year my student loan has been cut from £1780 to a paltry £1330. I cannot beleive that in a year when financial costs are at their very highest and overdrafts are approaching bursting point the Student Loans Company decide that they are going to give you less money.

I cannot see any reasoning behind this as the education year for fourth year often carries on longer than for other years due to oral examinations.
