Disadvantages: Should be free money!

I think that student loans are a really bad idea. Students have enough problems to face during their time a university without having to get themselves into so much debt. I`ve got friends who have graduated owing well over £10,000 and they haven`t been spending to excess. They have just been living a cheaop lifestyle, trying to skrimp and save whereever they can, and they are still in a lot of debt. Now they`ll spend the first few years of their working life paying off all those debts, getting taxed and wondering if it was worth all the effort.

Grants are a much better idea than student loans. Give the students the money and they WILL do better at university - they won`t have to work to suplement their income and will be able to spend more time revising etc. If this were to happen then everyone would win - the students would get better degrees and thus better jobs, the economy would gradually improve as the entire UK workforce gets more and more intelligent and experienced. Nobody loses!

As it is the student loans company runs everyone around making them jump through hoops to lend some money, which is jus not fair in my opinion!
