Advantages: doesn't cost taxpayer

Disadvantages: doesn't encourage fiscal responsibility

Student Loans are an excellent way for hard up students to purchase their first Playstation.
Let's face it, the average student would not ordinarily be able to purchase necessities, such as a decent hifi separates system, or a flatscreen television, without the help of the Student's Loan Company.
I would rather that young people fund their irresponsible purchases via credit than waste taxpayers money as they used to in the 60s, 70s and 80s.
Whilst I accept that an important minority of students need grants to simply maintain a decent standard of living - there is certainly a majority who expect too much and fritter away their parents' and the taxpayers' hard-earned on chips, beer, Coldplay records, and copies of the Socialist Worker.

I would like to hear REAL students ideas on this, I'm afraid you are very must mistaken and the idea that students would do this is stupid. As for students wanting too much money and frittering what they have, just tell that to a room of students and see if you get out alive.

I didnt rate NU because I diagree, but if your going to acuse a massive group as being nothing more than scroungers then I'm afraid you have to write a bit more on the subject.

Your opinion left me completely bemused, I'm not sure if you're attempting to be sarcastic or if this is a serious opinion, either way it is of very little use to anybody in its present form. It is far too short and contains very little actual useful information. Please let me know if you ever alter it, I'll come back and take another look.

I can think of better things to spend a loan on, like food...Rogue
