Disadvantages: delays in reciept of chqs, Student Loan Co can be uncontactable, there is little other source of funding for a Degree

I found the money from a student loan to be 'useful'. It was a sum of money that would be used for a mojor purchase like a new roof! However, it was not enough to live on. You would often find that there would be a delay in receiving cheques and when you tried to telephone, it was constantly engaged to the degree that it would be fair to assume that they took the 'phone off the hook for a week. When you leave Uni, if you need to defer payment because you haven't found a job or you begin further study, you have to be very prompt in returning your deferral form otherwise they just begin to take the payments from your bank account. The staff that you speak to at the Student Loan Co are always very helpful and polite.
