I remember my days of being at Uni. Things were tight money wise but I had the benefit of living at home. Hence, when it was my turn to step out into the big wide world, my Student loan was not as monsterous as some of my friends. some of them had racked up £10,000 worth of debt. That is a lot in 3 years but unfortunately necessary for ... Read the complete review

As a student I find student loans a necessity but i also feel that they do not cover ones needs for the year. The amount I was given has barely covered my first semester. I pay my own fees but not accommodation and have found that I have still needed to use an overdraft facility in order to get through the first semester. The strange thing is that ... EMA is a new concept for many students studying at full-time college education. Luckily, I live in one of the first areas that it is tested out on, so I get to benefit. Basically, if you are in full time college education, the student will be awarded a set amount of money deposited into their account in 2 week arrears. Depending on ... Read the complete review

Yup scrap them, they are nonsence, most people who leave university never have enough money to pay them off, ever. They do not allow you to take out other large loans, morgages are a problem especially if you did something like fine arts, drama or hair and beauty or something else completly useless. The government should go back to ... Read the complete review

I think that student loans are a really bad idea. Students have enough problems to face during their time a university without having to get themselves into so much debt. I`ve got friends who have graduated owing well over £10,000 and they haven`t been spending to excess. They have just been living a cheaop lifestyle, trying to skrimp and save ... As a mature student,i have recently applied for my second student loan, having ironically only just paid back the one i took out nine years ago.Swings and roundabouts. My experience with them has been that the organisation is an efficient, helpful, company that is now privately owned, rather than government run. This, however, has its advantages as ... Student loans are now a fact of life, students should all get them. In my experience there was a load of students who just got the money and lodged in a bank, and got about 5% profit tax free, a useful income. The other group had to spend theirs on rent and food. You always hear scare stories of students who blow all their loan in the first ... Read the complete review

I applied for a loan at the end of July and 2 weeks later I received my letter of approval. I then had to wait until the beginning of November for my letter of award as the company had 'misplaced' my application. When the letter of award eventually did come through, I was shocked at the small amount they were offering me. Fair enough, I ... Read the complete review

I'm a final year student in Liverpool, I left home and live here all year round. My parents earn the amount at which I have to pay all my tuition fees unaided. So my parents pay my rent for me (bless them!!) and I have to pay everything else. I would like to know why Student Loans are, (stress: in MY opinion) so stupid?! I received ... My own personal experience with the student loan company was quite worrying and left me very frustrated. I transferred Uni at the beginning of Semester 2 in the first year. I notified my LEA who in turn notified the loans company, who then asked me to confim this, which I did. This all seemed fine, apart from when it came to ... Read the complete review

I was one of the last lucky students who went to university backed up by my LEA grant. I do know that if i was going to university today there would be no way that i would have been able to get a Degree. I didn`t spend all of my money on drink and fags as most people think that students do. I must admit there were a few drunken nights, and ... Read the complete review

I think it is an absoloute disgrace that students cannot get grants anymore, this will surely keep bright smart talented young people from going to university. Those who do go to university will be left with crippling debts run up by the cost of living, not excessive alcoholisim which many people think is all students spend there money on. ... I am now in fourth year and already have several student loans to my name, which I think is ludicrous in a society which is supposedly trying to encourage it's teenagers into higher eduction. I am however highly reliant on this form of finance and was extremely dismayed to find that this year my student loan has been cut from £1780 ... Read the complete review

As most students will agree a student loan is an essential part of campus life, however last year I had a complete nightmare trying to get my loan organised. I first applied for it in early March but it took them until June - 2 days before the closing date for applications before they processed it, then they gave me the wrong amount - short by ... I'm afraid to face the facts here and say that the limit of student loans available nowadays are putting students off in going to university. Although students understand that with university, comes debt....they don't like to be too far under so then they can't live afterwrds as they're forever paying back their money. What i ... Well, I'm in college right now, and everything is so-so. But I'll be goin to University next year and the one thing that's bugging me is the lack of financial help that the Government are providing. NO! A student loan is not help. How the hell do the government expect students to study well when they have already got a ... Read the complete review

Over the last year, the Student Loans Company have come up with a new policy regarding the payment of your loan. For a long time they were willing to pay you your money in one installment - excellent to pay off your halls bills or overdraft in one fell swoop and then it`s a load off your mind. Now they have decided that, no matter what, ... Read the complete review

Although many people seem to agree that grants should be available to students, and those telling us we should only have loans were the ones who in the past got grant money, there is none available these days. I had a very depressing thought one day. I suddenly realised that once I finish University I would have to look forward to a debt of £20000 to pay off via the 'graduate's tax'. On the other hand, I could not have a student loan at all and try to live off my overdraft. That, I know I can't live by. With the ever increasing ... Read the complete review

I worked whilst at Uni, not in term time, but every summer, Easter and Xmas break at Burger King, of all places! This seriously reduced my overdraft from the previous terms, and also I spent less 'cos I was too busy working! I never bought any clothes, music or went on holiday whilst at Uni. I realise some people need loans to ... Read the complete review
