Advantages: none

Disadvantages: add lots of extras on, run off with documents, try to sell their own insurance

About a year and a half ago we needed a new car and after applying at one or two places we were turned down. We decided to go and find somewhere else that would take us.

Due to disability we had got into a pickle and my hubby was issued with a ccj which was paid off. But it still was on his credit file.

The television adverts were the first place we saw Yes Car Credit. So I decided to look into this further. It took people with bad credit and we could drive out with a car the same day. Marvellous I thought so I sat down with hubby and told him all about it. Fine he said look into it more.

I visited the website and all that had on it was we say yes... and an online application form. So I filled in all the bits and pieces and it came back saying we had been accepted and we would get a telephone call soon.

A couple of hours later we got a telephone from a girl saying you have been accepted for one of our plans and how much deposit can you put down. We decided on two hundred pounds and told her what sort of car we wanted. She then made us an appointment over the next couple of days to go and see the local branch which is just around the corner in warrington from where I live.

We were really excited that we would be able to get a car in a couple of days. Then the phone rang the next day and it was a bloke this time saying can you put £300 down. I told him I could but I did not really want to. He said the plan we were accepted for needed us to put down £300 so we agreed. We were in desperate need of a car due to mobility problems.

The appointment was booked and we were told to take down certain documents, driving license, any benefit books or proof or income, proof of address, rent statement and utility bills.

We had heard a few stories about Yes Car Credit but other th
an the blip about the deposit, everything was ok so we thought. I told my hubby I would do the speaking as he is so laid back he would sign anything and agree to anything and not look at the paper work.

We now were due to go the next day and we got another phone call asking if we could put a £1000 down. I flipped with them and said if you do not want our business go away. I was hoping they did'nt as we really wanted a car. He then said he would accept £500. Now I had just come into a bit of money at the time and had not had chance to spend it and after a lot of umming and ahhing we had no choice and we said ok, but stop mithering us.

I started to have my reservations about them, they did not seem to know their price plans and the different schemes that they did. I asked them for the warrington branch telephone number and they refused. They said they would get someone to call me back. A bit weird I thought but they are endorsed by the AA so they must be ok.

That night I sat down to watch ITV and the phone phone rang, quick turn over to watchdog BBC1 my motherinlaw said. We did, they were doing a programme on YCC. It was about two people who had bad experiences and one of them was from the Warrington Branch. It showed you the sales team and them pressurising you into signing documents and then they take your documents away, which private documents should always be kept in sight.

These ladies were telling people how their car was worth around £3500 but they were paying back £10,000 in one case as they put unwanted things on top of everything. I could not believe this. One of the other things they were saying is that they are not endorsed by the AA and they confirmed this. They have now changed their adverts to offer AA breakdown or they inspect their cars up to AA
standards.

At this point we were in two minds, yes we really wanted a car but we had been in debt before would it be really wise to go ahead with it. We decided to make some enquiries and rang the AA who confirmed they do not endorse the company. Later that night we rang YCC and said your literature is lying and we are having doubts about this company. Something just is not clicking. She was suprised to hear of this and said they were endorsed by the AA. I told her she should watch Watchdog then. She was suprised at this obviously they had not been warned. Now to me if there is nothing to hide, then why did'nt the chairman go on to defend his company?

Ok, it is a massive organisation and there will be some unhappy customers as there will be with most. So I decided to find out a bit more about this company. I searched on the internet and out of all the things I saw we came to a conclusion, it would be better to struggle without a car from them.

The time was now rather late and their customer services had closed. The warrington branch rang me in the morning to see if I was going to keep our appointment. I asked her could I just pop down and look at the cars first to which she replied no, you have to see them by appointment only. I then told her everything and that because of the appalling customer service and help and pestering we had decided not to bother wasting our time.

The appointment came and went and they bombarded us with telephone calls. If you can manage to pay £1,000 deposit then you can have this super duper car.. The fact that we only had about £200 spare to spend on a car was neither here nor their. All they were bothered about is getting a sale, No... No... No...

This is where we left it but they still tried by sending us a welcome letter and if we changed our mi
nds to get back in touch.

Now our friends take up the other part of this story for us. They were also in the same position but went to the meeting. They asked if they could look at all the cars in the pound. Again they said no and said what are you looking for. They explained they had around £150 for a car each month a deposit of £100. They tried to sell them a car for repayments of £200 a month if they could put a depositdown for £200. They thought about this and then decided to go for it. However when they were about to sign they looked at their apr which was astonomical and around 29%. Also on the documentation there were things that they had not requested. They were told this was compulsory for the type of car they wanted and if they wanted to drive away today then they would have to accept it.

They demanded their documents back and said no thanks.

We both had a lucky escape from them. Ok we had bad credit but why would we want more when we dont owe anyone now.

We eventually saved and bought a car.

Oh by the way even the website is like the sales people a pain in butt. I went to look at it to see if they had updated any of the information. When I come to come out of the website a popup came up and it asked me was I sure I wanted to exit the site.

Yes I think so.... phew what a lucky escape

Here is their website, yescarcredit.co.uk my advice do not bother looking, waste of time, space and money and will only get you into thousands of pounds worth of unecessary debt.

Thought for the day

Provident bought Yes Car Credit in 2002. mmmm home collectors buying a car company... must look into that. I did and suprise suprise, provident also offer car insurance... ;0)

I have heard so many horror stories about this that everytime I hear someo
ne wanting to go and buy from Yes, I will personally give them 50 reasons not to do so.

Would I recommend it?
