It is now over a year since I had the misfortune of using the services of Deanco and Dean Emburey and am still having to live with the poor standard of workmanship. I engaged his services to modify the downstairs of my house - take out the old external wall to open the room up into the extension and to fit a new kitchen. His price was in the middle of other quotes I had received and he seemed a nice, trustworthy guy and I had heard from a neighbour that they were pleased with the work he was doing. However, by the time it came to starting my work (2 months later than originally planned but I was assured by him that he finishes one project before moving on to the next so he would be dedicated to completing my work), unknown to me, they had fallen out over his demands for money, poor attitude to finishing the job, sloppy workmanship and reneging on what had originally been agreed. He started the "6 week max" project in the October and I moved out for this period so he could get on with the work. It then transpired that he was finishing one job and trying to start another whilst doing my work. He made a mess inside and outside of the house which he just left. Damage to architraving, plaster in other rooms, furniture, etc were made and I was told that this was to be expected and not his fault. The kitchen he ordered from Howdens (he would not use any other company), was over-ordered and was fitted poorly. Issues that I raised was then blamed on the quality of the kitchen from Howdens. The kitchen was fine, it was the fitter that was not of quality. Many of the over ordered units could not be returned as they had been damaged in his care but again this was not his fault. The wood flooring he put down was not cut correctly and has bad joins. I wish I'd had the flooring company fit it rather than be persuaded by him that he could do it just as well. He is a carpenter by trade - not a builder, not a plasterer, not a project manager and his carpentry skills are poor. Issues that were raised were never his fault, he miscut badly the work surface and told me that he would put extra plaster to the wall to try and even it out. He was demanding and menacing about money, always demanding more for extras that his quote had conveniently not allowed for even though they had been discussed from the first time of meeting, tried to con me out of refund from Howden, was told that I didn't have a contract and therefore he could not be called back if anything went wrong, etc. In the end I paid him to leave my property (he'd already told me that he knew people that would make a "visit" if I didn't pay up) some 6 months after he started work. Shoddy workmanship but nothing was ever his fault (and I have the e-mails still as proof to his attitude). For instance, there was a cat flap in back wall which I asked him to brick in which was never a problem until it came to doing it and he wanted a couple of hundred for doing it. The new skirting would cut across the cat flap so I reminded him about filling in the cat flap. Rather than fill it in (it was on the snag list which he got upset over) he smashed out the bottom part of the frame and then put the skirting in front of it. I had to do a number of trips to the local tip because he'd left so much rubbish in and outside my house including a massive pile of concrete, bricks and sand. The garden was covered in sawdust both front and back and his promises of cleaning up never materialised. Some of my neighbours were lucky, they were going to use him but after witnessing my experience they thought better of it. Steer very clear. I would not recommend him ever.
