Advantages: Your house is like a show home

Disadvantages: Finding someone you can trust can be difficult

When i wasn't a full time mum I was a qualified Nursery Nurse. I left this field (hopefully for good!) when I became ill with an eating disorder. Once I got better I took on a job as a cleaner. The major things that swayed my decision to take the job was the fact that I got paid per hour than I did being a room leader in a baby room (you can't put a price on the next generation!) and it was much less paper work and responsibility.

I hate doing my own cleaning but when you are getting paid to do someone elses it really isn't that bad. The funny thing about it was that some people actually cleaned up a bit before I went to their house because they were embarressed about the mess.

I worked for a cleaning company and did a few hours cleaning shops and offices which was great. I was left to my own devices listening to my ipod whilst dancing around the hoover. I also cleaned for family and friends which was also great because it made me feel like I wanted to do a brillient job.

Taking on a cleaner can be a nerve racking time. You make the choice to invite someone into your home and into every single room of your house. You have to make the right decision or you could end up out of pocket, unhappy or worse still, banged on the head with a hammer (this did happen to someone I know; the old woman realised that her cleaner was stealing from her so questioned her and the cleaner, who was a friend, tried to kill her). Here are some insiders tips on how to go about it.

1) If you are going to employ someone from an agency then don't befraid to ask the agency for numbers of past employers to make sure that the person you are about to employ is trustworthy.

2) Be careful about employing friends. I did it and it was fine but you need to beable to confront them if the job they are doing isn't good enough and you also need to beable to talk about the money side of things without getting embarressed or undercharging. At the end of the day you are paying them a wage to do a job and vice versa.

3) Ask around to see if any of your friends have a good cleaner. A lot of my clients found me through word of mouth and they were over the moon that they found someone that one of their friends trusted. Also you'd be surprised at how many people keep their cleaner a secret which leads me on to my next point.

4) Don't feel embarressed or lazy. The fact is you need a cleaner for a reason and regardless of what that reason is, most people would probably love to have a 'Mary Poppins' come in to there home and make it clean again.

5) If you are a worrier or hate the thought of people being in your house while you aren't there but still haven't got the time to clean then come to some arrangement. I used to clean a particular house when one of my clients was home because she worked from home. It suited me because if I finished my duties then she could allocate specific jobs for me to do after that.

6) Finally remember to tell your cleaner where she can't go. For instance if all of your sex toys are in a certain cupboards and you would be mortified if she found them then tell her that , that cupboard is out of bounds. On the other hand you could ask her to go through and give it all a really good clean!!!! Hah! I onyl put this one in to see who was reading this review!!!! But there is a serious part to it:)

Hope this helps:)~
