Advantages: Time off work?

Disadvantages: Feel drugged all the time, never felt pain like it, costimg me a fortune in tablets.

Sorry about the title, but that's how I feel at the moment. I was actually sat in the Library waiting to get an Emergency appointment with the dentist at 4.30, since 1.20 today and I had someone, er time to kill.
The pain I'm talking about is Toothache, probably the worst pain I've had in my life, never had any babies you see.
It all started on Xmas Day 2002, to be exact, a few days before my teeth felt on edge, I put it down to a Roast Beef sandwich I had, had which was a bit tough. But then Xmas Day came and I was at there watching Alistair Mcgowans programme, and I felt so miserable and in pain. I realised that something cynical was about to happen.

To be honest, I had never been frightened of going to the dentist, as I had three braces in my teens and various fillings, even a tooth pulled out, but that was under gas.
Then when I met my husband I joined his dentist, and happily went there for a few years, only for him to say there was nothing wrong with my teeth. I got so used to those comments, that I stopped going for 5 years, that's until about 2 years ago when I had to have a check up with another dentist, mine had struck me off the list. He X-rayed my teeth and I really struggled to keep those awful bits of cardboard or whatever they are in my mouth. I made ridiculous gagging noises and almost choked, I was so embarrassed, even the dental nurse hid. She probably thought I was a dog with rabies.
Since then, I had kept away up until October last year, a new dentist was in my town and I got on his long waiting list. He quickly discovered I had problems with my top two wisdom teeth and I asked him if I had another one coming through at the bottom as something was giving me great pain. He said I needed two or three fillings, and made an appointment for January this year. That's when I broke out in hot sweats, I was scared stiff for no apparent reason.

*January*

Well the dreaded appointment came, I met
my dentist again and asked if I definetly had a new wisdom tooth coming through, he said I need to give you an X-ray, I told him I couldn't stand those rubber gloves of his in my mouth, so he said they had a machine which could x-ray without stuffing things into my mouth. I felt so relieved even though it would cost more.
The X-ray didn't show any new teeth, but I was so puzzled as I could and still can feel something sharp coming through my gum.
He does wear an hearing aid, so maybe he misheard me. I asked him again, and this time he still said no, theres no tooth. The funny thing was he said there was one coming through in October.
Then, he reclined the dentists chair and stuck protective glasses onto my face. I tried telling them I couldn't stand a filling as I was so scared, but the dental nurse talked me into it saying they numb it better now. He applied some cream onto my upper lip, and let it take effect, whilst I was sent back to the waiting room.
Eventually I was called back, and work began. To be honest, it wasn't as bad as I thought, but even though I didn't like the drill noise, I think it's that water thinghy that hurts more. My teeth are so sensitive that the cold water running through were making me cringe. All was done in about 10 minutes.

As I was leaving, he made another appointment for me for the week after, this time the needle hurt a little bit more. In the middle of the session, I suddenly got into hysterics, I couldn't stop laughing, probably the nervousness had built up too much, and all let rip. I whacked the dental's nurse arm out of the way, and every two minutes roared with laughter, maybe they had given me laughing gas instead.
In the end, he completed the filling, but to be honest, it didn't settle down for a week, I'm not sure what they fill it with nowadays, but it felt different and looked different to my old faithful fillings.

* My lower tooth*

T
his is now where the pain is definetly coming from, I have had time off work, and today I'm off work again, in so much pain, I thought if I wrote an op, someone might help me.
After Januarys appointment, he said the next time he can see me is June this year, he has also referred me to the hospital for my wisdom teeth taking out, but I have to wait 5/6 more weeks before someone can see me, nevermind taking the teeth out. It's not them that;s the problem, it's the lower one.
I'm too much of a chicken that I can't face him whipping them out in the surgery, which he has offered to do.
The other Friday I left work and sat in the waiting room until he saw me, I wasn't leaving until he had done so. In the end , this is when he tried to X-ray again to see if I needed a root filling, the machine couldn't detect that tooth underneath. I tried twice, but kept feeling as though I was going to choke. Why do they have to wear those rubber gloves, they make me courten.
In the end he said if I can't let him X-ray it, I would have to have that out in hospital too.
I've been buying Anadin Ibroprofen Ultra, and I buy 2 packets at least a week with 16 tablets. Up until Tuesday I had found them to be working, and also the dentist had prescribed Antibiotics, but by Tuesday night, and last night when I have been awake most of the night in pain, I am finding they are no longer working to keep the pain at bay.
Now Iam sat here wondering what the hell to do, should I be brave and let him take the tooth out, or maybe offer to have a root filling. But then he won't root fill until I have an X-ray.
Everybody who has had a root filling, tells me to have the tooth taken out instead as it's not as painful.
Has anybody out there had a root filling, and are they a big softie like me.
I am going on holiday in just over two weeks and need something urgent to disguise the pain. I even nipped in to the doctors today, to see i
f they would give me something, but she said the doctors wouldn't treat dental pain, all I want are some painkillers, strong ones at that.
I can't stand Oil of Clove either, if you suggest that, something not too nasty please.

* The Moral of the Story*

Toothache has been the worst time of my life, I've never known pain like it. Please, please don't do what I did and not go to the dentists for years, I am now regretting it. I wish I had kept on top of it, it was easy to shrug off the appointments, afterall nothing was ever wrong with my teeth......
HEY MAYBE I WILL GET A CROWN FOR THIS, GEDDIT...........
