Advantages: Pretty pictures in adverts

Disadvantages: Non existant customer care, No service

Anyone living in Scotland , or perhaps North of England, would have found it hard to miss the adverts put out by the aforesaid UPVC Door company of Blantyre , Lanarkshire recently.

You get the picture - no hidden costs, nothing to pay until totally satisfied etc etc. - adverts on the TV ,1/2 pagers in the Sunday , pictures of shiny upvc doors, with shiny happy faces of staff awaiting your call, and pictures of happy smiley customers.

Well, I wish I'd missed their adverts. I called them mid August , arranged an appointment for a salesman to call on a Saturday morning. He was late- spent the best part of day chasing up the appointment on the phone. When he eventually arrived however, pleased enough with selection of doors on offer, chose one , advised that total cost would be £249 and given an installation date of 20 September.

Like most people, I have a limited amount of annual leave -so was a tad concerned when at 3pm on 20th , no one had arrived to replace the door. Several calls between myself & the company ensued , only to be worryingly told that the installer had "his phone switched off" However, I was the "second job of the day" - a bit worrying, given the time. I wanted my home to be lockfast by bedtime, you see. However, need not have concerned myself, as the door was NOT the one I had ordered in any case.

I don 't intend to bore you here detailing the number of phone calls made that afternoon to their offices in Blantyre, nor describing the blantant lies & excuses given for the lack of communication , and disgraceful attitude displayed by the installer. I will leave that to your imagination. Suffice to say, I agreed to take another 1/2 day's leave on the following Friday afternoon- waited around and still no door. Again the installer could not be reached by the female in the office, who by now purported to be the "manager"

Unfortunately, I cannot give you an accurate review of the finished job , or the actual product, as the disgraceful standard of care up to that point left me with no alternative but to cancel the job after loosing a day & a half's leave for nothing. I took the view that if the company cannot get basic customer care right, then what chance would there be of the finished product being OK. I also couldnt stand having to go through the rigmarole of wasting yet more time if the job wasn't right and I needed to call them out again. Interestingly though, I met an acquantance a few days later, and told me that she wished she knew that I had planned to go to the UPVC Door Company in the first place, as she woud definately have talked me out of it. She herself had a door fitted by them a few months earlier and eventually had to get a independent joiner to make good , after the UPVC Door Company were recalled 3 times to attempt to sort out the original botched installation to no avail.

My advice would be to contact a local firm which still believes in integrity and providing a good level of service to its customers.

The UPVC Door Company

I wish that I had taken the time to read these negative reviews before entering into an agreement with this firm.
I ordered a door, was given a delivery and installation date - which was today. I have waited for 9 hours for the joiner to arrive. I telephoned the company twice in that time only to be assured that someone would be with me by 5pm. At 4.30 I phoned the company to find that the office closd at 3pm until Monday. I have had to take an annual leave day for this and am absolutely incensed by their lack of communication and any semblance of customer care. I have no idea whether my door will ever be fitted. Never again.

For 3 days the door I bought 11 months ago has failed to lock. I have repeatedly called the company, taken time off work and been assured that someone would be out or that they would return my call. Eventually a joiner came out but at a time when I was no longer expecting him, had given up hope based on the previous 2 days experience and I gone back to work. He left a card. On speaking to the 'manager' he feigned concern, apologised and promised to call me right back...on not hearing anything an hour later I phoned again at 330pm to find they had shut for the weekend at 3pm!

Hi I read your article with interest..I too have had bad dealings with this company..i'e, their fitter just not turning up after I called on the day to confirm the installation would be done, to be ASSURED my back door was "on the van". trying to speak with a manager is pointless, they just wont take calls, then if you tell them to cancel, they send out a "Breach of contract" letter, form their Installations Manager..Mr Paul Hogarth...after trying unsuccessfully to get him to speak with me on the phone, I then got a "Court proceedings" letter, because I told them I wasnt prepaired to take anymore time of work, and they could either fit the door in the evening, or on a Sunday..

I have since found out that..the Managing Director Mr James McGill, and the installations manager Mr Paul Hogarth, are one and the same person..

Makes you wonder why the managing director needs to have an alias name, makes this company sound really shoddy..!

Appa rently they dont take on board disgruntled customers, refusing to deal with them either in person or on the phone, instead Mr McGill aka Paul Hogarth, tells them to just send out breach of contract letters..

AVOI D THIS COMPANY, and tell all your friends to avoid it too..
