Advantages: Very good value, great product and service
Disadvantages: none
We decided to have windows replaced, did a bit of research with friends about how much they had paid per window.
We received a tele-sales call from Bowater-Zenith and so gave them the opportunity to come and quote. I was on my own the evening that the salesman came, but despite the fact that I had clearly told him that I would not be purchasing any windows that night under ANY circumstances, he still drawled on for an 2 hours trying to scare me into thinking that someone was going to try to break into my home and murder me in my sleep! Then he showed me a piece of a window clearly made in the 1980's and tried to convince me that this was the kind of window that most smaller companies would install... He also gave me a sob story about how he had broken his neck in a car crash and had to resort to double glazing sales for money... all very transparent... yawn....
He after initially quoting around £9000 he then gave me a "special promotion, never to be repeated after tonight price" of £4900 for 5 windows and a door with the "featured home" scam.
Having shown him the door, we went to a number of local companies in Reading (Abbey windows, splash group & Academy windows), all of which seemed pretty legitimate, they all quoted between £2000 & £3000 for the same work.
Abbey windows were the cheapest at £2200 and they also offered me upgraded optiglass for free (standard grade is K glass). We went ahead with Abbey and I am totally happy with their service. Delivery was a bit longer than promised but I gave them the benefit if the doubt as it was Christmas. Quality of the windows is very good, fitting was clean, tidy, professional & quick. The fitters even fixed part of our guttering which they noticed was broken whilst they were up the ladder - as a favour. One of the panes in the door was broken during fitting, no quibble when I said that I would with-hold £500 until it was fixed. 3 days later they were back with the replacement at 8am so that I didn't have to take any time off work.
Absolutely no doubt at all about recommending this company to others. Good quality product, good value for money, professional service. They do what they say they will.
Summary: Good quality product, good value for money, professional service.

- 02/11/06 This commentary needs to be balanced by the experience of another Abbey customer. Abbey Windows in Reading made such a botched job of my conservatory that it had to be rebuilt by another company. But hey, maybe if you use them you'll get lucky
and they will do a good job. |
